Great question! The answer is counterintuitive. It is because we are genetically programmed to spend time outdoors during the day moving around a lot a nd working hard to get enought food for survival. Then, we are programmed to sleep when it is dark - hence 10 hours a night on average.
That is why we crave fatty foods so much. We know it is bad for us, but 10,000 years ago if you could catch a Mammoth you needed that fat becasue it is the densest source of calories.
For evidence today look at modern day Eskimos. They have a diet that is very high in fat and yet a lowincidence of heart disease.
Let's face it - as a species we are not built for sitting on our butts in front of a computer or TV all day.

Because when a body is not in motion, it tends to stay not in motion. The car won't run if you don't turn on the ignition. We don't just wake up ready to run a marathon. Most people proverbially can't make it with out a cup of coffee. Having breakfast helps, you are giving nourishment to your body, not making it work off reserves. Eat enough to get your system going (like turning on the ignition), then the rest of your energy will come from what you create when you get yourself going! You have to make yourself get up and do something, take a walk, go work out, get fresh air. That causes physiological reactions and in turn helps alleviate bad moods, and consequently increases energy. Sunlight makes people feel good, being outside, just chillin' with the sun on you, does wonders for the spirit. Get up and shake your booty!

I would guess that as you realx your body and mind start to wind down and you enter a sort of pre-hibernation state.
Your heart rate will lower as will oxygen levels etc and as you start to switch off your body may think that its soon going to sleep hence the tiredness.
Im yawning just at the thought.............

because doing something makes you feel better. If you sit around and do nothing then your body adjusts to that and gets used to it. You need to get up and move.
