Yup. When you have your period your hormones are all jiggy. Bipolar complicates that. While I no longer have periods, I am bipolar and remember quite well how messed up I could be during my periods! Good Luck. Anyone who tells you your period doesn't affect a bipolar disorder has never suffered from bipolar.

menstruation affects everyone's mood to a degree because of the change in hormone levels women experience during this time. If the change is signifigant talk to your doctor because there is a condition which can be treated through medication.

Absolutely! Your menstrual cycle releases hormones that can affect the ways that your medications are metabolized in your body, causing a period of mood instability. The hormones can also trigger manic or depressive episodes.
For the best advice, speak with the clinician who prescribes your medications and oversees your care for bipolar, who may also want to speak with the MD who oversees your gyn. care. If you are on birth control hormones, they can also have a serious impact on your mood stabilization in bipolar d/o.

menstruation affects your mood whether you are bipolar or not. hormones tend to go a little crazy around that time. i guess it might be a little harder to cope with if you are bipolar.
