it stems from world war 2, they came in at the last minute and say they won the war!
and because they were not in the war for most part of it, they had provisions more than us brits. They came with all there hoisery, and chococlates and tinned meat, and wooed the british women.
So the british men didn't like the yanks.
and those british women who couldn't get themselves a yank hubby were just jealose.

I cant see much point in this type of question,!
Why do so and so hate such and such?
Some folk think that just by seeing the question it must be a 'fact', it isn't a 'fact' at all!
Now if it had been slightly rephrased to ask why do 'some' people in Britain hate the Americans, you may even get some reasonable answers, like because the Americans kicked us out of America,(war of independance) or the Suez canal bit where they told us to bog off from there. Or even the latest 'friendly fire' bit.
I have worked overseas with a lot of Americans, I have brought a few home to theUK with me on leave, there is no way I would have done that if I thought for even one minute that 'all' Brits hated Americans.
They all enjoyed their brief stay they mixed very well in my local pub, the usual banter was ongoing all the time , the Americans were called 'Yanks' where ever they came from! The Americans gave as good as they took, a good crack was had by all, I didnt feel at all uncomfortable with the lot of them, I was happy to call them friends and workmates!
I have always tended to 'go over the top' a bit with my banter but they always gave me as good as I gave them.
The majority of this so called 'Hate' is merely friendly banter.
As a Jock I can say honestly that I dont hate any group!
I have worked alongside Muslims, I get on fine with them!
I do 'dislike' the Engish, if it was a choice between any American or an Englishman I would pick the American any time.
Hope this helps??

Well, firstly your question is a generalisation - I can't think of anything that all Brits agree about, except perhaps a liking of tea. So it is certainly untrue that all of us feel the same way about Americans.
Secondly, there are Americans, and then there are Americans ... they're not all the same, anymore than all Brits are the same. And I think most rational people recognise that. And a lot of Brits are rational.
Thirdly, I would agree with you that a lot of Brits do have a negative stereotyped idea of Americans - and I have to be honest, I would have counted myself in that group until a few days ago. I changed my mind when I saw that many of them were capable of responding with great intelligence and maturity, not to mention razor sharp wit, to some of the really daft comments posted on Answers last weekend. I recognise that I was wrong to stereotype and participate in a slanging match - it did me no honour at all.
America certainly doesn't do its image any favours with its uncooperative and selfish position on climate change - while pretending to world leadership and protection of liberty, its policies present the greatest threat that humans have ever posed to life on earth. Not to mention its continued insistence on renewing the nuclear deterrent here on British soil. And it is also true that many Americans are arrogant - just as many Brits are arrogant. They keep reminding Brits and Europeans how much we owe them for saving us from Hitler, and maybe they do have a point there. But I really think it's time that we all moved on from the past and all cooperated to secure a future for everyone on this planet.
Having said all that, I don't think that trading insults and diatribes ever helps to make things better.

I love these questions on here.
When you have a question about why the Brits hate the Americans, it's usually a mixed bag, with some saying that they don't hate the Americans at all, and others saying that the reasons are because we're ignorant, fat, arrogant, and think we're the greatest, desperately trying to justify their answer.
When you have a question as to why the Americans hate the Brits (which is much more uncommon here) almost all of the answers are either "we don't hate the Brits" or "I have no idea what you're talking about".
If you do see an American talking crap about the Brits on here, it is almost always in retaliation to what some other Brit poster said. Where as I've seen countless threads started by Brits, who just go on and rip into the Americans, without any provocation at all.
Bottom line is, there are tons of idiots and bigots in every country on this earth. But in regards to who doesn't think highly of who in relation to Britain or the U.S., it does appear, at least on the site, to be rather one sided. I've heard numerous times about rising "anti-american" sentiment in Britain, and regardless of how unfounded or blown out of proportion that may be, has anyone ever in their life heard of "anti-British" sentiment in the U.S.? I sure haven't.
Word of note. Except on this site, I have never, and I stress "never" have I ever heard of a single American say something derogatory about the Brits. Perhaps you can chalk it up to our lack of knowledge of other places, and hence it may not be something we even occupy ourselves with (another cause for a rib at us Yanks). Or perhaps it's just that it is indeed one sided. Every American I know of holds the British in very high regard, perhaps because many of us see a little bit of us in them.
Well placed criticism about the U.S. is always welcome, as it's as prevalent in the U.S., as it is outside of the U.S. I just don't see much of that here.

Americans are generally very confident and patriotic. Unfortunately, The British (as a race) tend to view confidence as arrogance, and even the most patriotic American has got to realise that some Yanks can come across as supremely arrogant. Hence the WW2 thing; instead of saying "we all worked together to win the war" Americans generally go down the "We saved your asses in WW2" route which is extremely insulting to the generation who lived through that horrific time, and to those thousnads of people from ALL allied countries who fought and died for the freedom of Europe. That's where I think most of the Brit vs Yank antagonism stems from.

I don't know - maybe they don't have enough to do. Maybe because they aren't a world power anymore and are upset that America - the colony they lost is. Maybe because the British haven't come up with a lot of the techonolgical advances - the Americans have (electricity, telephones, airplanes, computers, TV's etc) and they are jealous.
Whatever the reason - a lot of the ones on here seem to be fueled with hate towards Americans. They offer no real reasons - but no reason is really needed to hate someone. The best argument is to try and insult Americans on a personal level - which is pretty sad.
They have no arguments - just a personal vendetta.

Most likely because they are self important and arrogant, they know nothing of the worrld outside of their home country, as an example i had and american ask me where in relation to England Welsh was, could not comprehend that Welsh was a language not a country, they impose their beliefs and culture on the rest of the world and believe anyone who doesn't agree is a terrorist. oh and incidentally in answer to noncrazed ridiculous statement i think youll find that electricity, telephones computers and televisions were all invented by Englishmen and the first powered flight was made by an Englishman (admittedly it was a steam powered non manned plane but it worked!)

I think you are trying to be controversial and its not working. What a dumb question you generalise to much and that's shows your intelligence levels and probably your age too. Brits don't hate Americans they hate their government but they hate theirs too . Sorry do you understand the word government i know its a long word for you.2 words of advice grow up
