you can goto a pet store and purchase a doggie toothpaste which is safer for him than human toothpaste. if you are unsure on what to get for him you can always ask your vet and they will be able to advise you.

as for the tooth brush, pet stores sell ones that are designed for dog use. again you can always ask your vet for advice.

here are some that are at petsmart

I have a puppy that did the same thing. As soon as your dog starts chewing the toothbrush, take it out of their mouth. Use toothpaste only for dogs. Make sure you hold out their cheeks so you can see if they're chewing the toothbrush or not (this doesn't hurt unless you pull too far) or if you're really brushing their teeth instead. Eventually, they'll get use to it and won't eat the brush instead. Don't forget to reward after a good brushing. I have 2 dogs who love their teeth and tounge brushed. It's like a treat for them and they haven't had any dental problems nor breath problems.

The way to stop him from chewing his toothbrush is to not let him get a hold of it in the first place. Just brush his teeth and then take it away. If you need something to encourage you to be able to take it off of him you could try using your finger to brush his teeth for a while, I'll wager that you won't let him chew on that for too long.
Oh, congrats on brushing his teeth, too few owners can be bothered doing it and it does have some great benefits.

Brushing a canines's enamel is physically powerful. It helps preclude fairly some build-up and keeps the enamel healthful. complicated canines nutrition and biscuits, besides as dental chews, can help with this besides, yet could be used as properly to brushing, to no longer replace brushing. maximum any petstore could have canines toothbrushes. or you will get a gentle-bristled human toothbrush, this is what I had to do in view that my canines is small or maybe the smaller sized toothbrushes on the petstores have been too massive. (i ended up getting a touch one toothbrush for my canines, it is sufficiently small and the bristles are gentle.) A canines-particular toothbrush would be extra handy to apply nevertheless, by way of fact it is angeled in any different case.

have you tried using a nylabone? it consists of nylon fibers and animal bases. My dog loves to chew and these usually last her a while, with the added advantage of cleaning her teeth.
