Or is it something else that I didn't list?

I've been getting conflicting claims as to the nature of "Hell", so I'd like to know what more people have to say about it.

Hell is a real place prepared by God for those who do not believe in Him, rebel against His laws, and reject His messengers. Hell is an actual place, not a mere state of mind or a spiritual entity. The horrors, pain, anguish, and punishment are all real, but different in nature than their earthly counterparts. Hell is the ultimate humiliation and loss, and nothing is worse than it.

Hell exists at the present time and will continue to exist forever. It will never pass away and its inhabitants will remain in it forever. No one will come out of Hell except sinful believers who believed in the Oneness of God in this life and believed in the specific prophet sent to them. The polytheists and unbelievers will reside in it forever. This belief has been held from classical times.

It is both a place and a state of being, non-existence wouldn't be much of a torment. It is separation from God.

Hell as a place is the earth itself (though I hope it doesn't stay that way).

After we die we are faced with the perfect knowledge of everything we have ever done, while standing before God. If we have a lot of stuff we shouldn't have done hanging around then our state of being becomes hellish. We torment ourselves and deliberately flee from God. (This is what most people consider hell.) I really don't believe that it last forever, it just feels like forever. Though I do believe in a permanent Hell, where Satan resides and only those who commit the unpardonable sin end up there.

if hell was a place, one could leave it simply by walking away. If it was a state of being, there would be no freedom unless one became something else. If it was simply nonexistence, there would be no nexus of pain which would refute the definition of hell.

Hell, like all other things, is a state of mind. By clinging to false hope, false belief, untruths, or personal damnation, you create a place of hell inside your very being, and the only cure for it is freedom from this way of thinking, or nonexistence.

Hell is the common grave for man kind.

Some points to look at from the Bible,
Suffering Job prayed to go there Job 14:13
A place of inactivity Ps 6:5; Ec 9:10; Isa 38:18,19
Jesus was raised from grave, Hell Ac 2:27,31,32; Ps 16:10
Hell will deliver up other dead, be destroyed Re 20:13,14

Hell is definently a place! Many times in the Bible the Hebrew word 'sheol' is translated 'hell' or the grave.
In the New Testament the word 'Hades' is translated hell or the grave. The word 'gehenna' is translated as 'a place of burning'!
Hell is indeed a state of mind, for those who would end up there, are 'hell-bent' on going there with their destruction, careless life styles. Their self-centered, godless thinking, in which God and their need for salvation have No place!
However, hell is not eternal as many erroneously teach, for how could God recreate a new heaven(sky) and a new earth after the Millennial Reign of Christ is over, if after he turns the whole earth into a 'lake of fire' where the sinners and wicked are 'consumed' this molten surface on earth continues forever!!! You will notice that sinners STILL exist, even during the thousand year reign of Christ, and their sinning must be judged by God!
Likewise, the Bible scriptures and common logic tell us that God wants to put an end to ALL sinning for ALL time, after the Millennial Reign of His Son Jesus Christ. How then could it be possible for Him to do this if 'sinners' are still 'burning' in the lake of fire forever?!!!
No indeed, hell is a very real state of mind, even in this present world, and a terrible place of burning, but that lake of fire is as the one which existed 4.5 billion years ago, . . lengthy but certainly NOT eternal!!!

Hell is a temporary holding place created for Satan and the angels which rebelled with him. Those who reject good, truth, love, righteousness, and all other things related to God, are in rebellion too, so they get to go there as well. It is a very hot, dark, lonely, not fun place, full of crying and "gnashing of teeth". But, like I said, it is only temporary. Death and Hell, and all those in Hell, including Satan and all his followers and angels, will all get dumped in the Lake of Fire and burn for all eternity.

This is very real, more real than anything you know now. Personally I believe that the really horrible thing about it is that you are eternally seperated from the God who loves you and who gave you life -- and this done by your own decision.

Maybe it makes you feel better for now to joke about it, to think that Hell is not real, or to make believe that it is something less, but, in my opinion, and it is just my opinion, you would better serve yourself if you imagine it to be worse than you can imagine, and to know that it is always best to embrace reality.

Well, I would say any existence in a hell state would not be desirable. I personally do not want too follow wrong advice and end up regretting it for eternity. This short 42 yrs. of extremely little suffering seems like eternal punishment too me without shooting for the jackpot.
So as for me and my house we will serve the LORD and play it safe.Instead of straining at the gnat just to swallow a camel. In other words if you can't endure a little pain and suffering now what makes you think you can endure eternal torment.Take care and may GOD bless you.

I think it depends on how you interpret scripture. It's a little topsy-turvy on the matter, and a little vague, too.

Personally, I think that it being a state of nonexistence makes a little more sense, as opposed to being a place of torment. What good would it do to punish someone eternally for finite sin? Besides, why would Satan (I guess he would be the one in charge there) punish you for doing HIS work?

Some say that hell is other people! Ha Ha! But I say this in jest. Hell is dependently originated and is arisen from the mind which is dependently originated and dependent origination is dependently originated and this means that it comes into being through a collection of parts that are dependently originated and descriptions which are dependently originated and various accounts that are dependently originated and then is labelled or imputed which is dependently originated based on this collection which is dependently originated, so, it is different for everybody whom are dependently originated. In short, it depends on what you've heard. Ha Ha Ha.

Hell is a place where God is completely absent. It was created originally for Satan and the fallen angels. Unlike even the worst places on earth right now, hell is completely devoid of hope.
