My car was classified as a cat c damaged vehicle. Apparently the insurance company said that it has to have a police check on it. Any idea why this would be?

The car as a cat c goes through what is known as a VIC test, they are sometimes performed by the local police garage if their isn't a VOSA testing station close to you.

What they are checking for is that the car is the same car that was wrote off, ie the vin and chassis numbers all check out and also the quality of the repair.

Its done to stop criminals cloning cars using the numbers off crashed cars and putting it on a stolen car. Also to check the repair isn't a cut and hut (two cars welded together).

After this test you can then reapply for a replacement log book.

No cereal cat c's are NOT normally stolen, most come from normal accidents.

To make sure it's not listed somewhere in the system as a stolen vehicle.
