Another thing to try is graphite powder. Just squirt a little into the keyway and put the key back in and out a few times. The graphite powder
doesn't gum up the works like WD40 or other lubricants.
Replacing the ignition key 'barrel' is not too big a job, but does involve removing the shear bolts that retain the mechanism to the steering wheel shaft. if you do get a new lock have a lock smith rekey it be fore you install the new one.
here are more that had same thing happen

attempt turning the steerage wheel slightly on an identical time as you attempt turing the ignition key. If that doesn't artwork, attempt shifting the shift lever. the two have interlocks which could shop you from turning the substantial. Keys and locks placed on out, so that is possible that one,or the two, are worn.

While trying to turn the key,

1) Try turning the steering wheel a little.
2) Try moving the shift lever.

Either can bind the mechanism.

That is what happened to me I later found out the reason was because some one had tried to steal my car and they messed it all up. Better check to see if that is your problem.
