Has anyone got this combination or seen it? I was keen on the black granite until I saw someone's kitchen last night and thought it made their room look dark. I want a really fresh modern look. Our preferred kitchen supplier can get the white or black very cheaply from an importer (but not other colours).

For best visual impact you are best go with contrasting colours. A white top with cream or ivory units would not look good - colours are too similar.

Hi, I have worked at a Kitchen Designer with ALNO, Wellmann and Kitchens Direct, so trust me. White is a bit clinical and cold, cream is a better colour also because it blends in better with any other colours you may have in your house. Glossy reflects the light better, your kitchen will appear brighter. Am I right in assuming you don't have had any kitchen planners in yet to give you an estimate? The reason I am saying it, is: Granite will add some 35 % to your kitchen price. We are talking about £ 500 - 900 per meter. Unless you have a tiny kitchen or you have a substantial budget, forget granite. Modern laminates are of high quality and you won't see a difference. Same goes for island units. It's the most expensive solution you can choose for any kitchen. Not only do you need full wood / veneer all around (all sides are visible), you need a lot of extra utility management (unless you are talking about storage only), such as water, gas, electrical wires and piping. If you are planning to have an island with a stove, you need a free-hanging extractor hood which again is the most dear of all. Out of 50 clients who wanted an island solution, I sold 1. Out of 20 who wanted granite, 1 bought granite.

Personal opinion counts I suppose, if you like it g for it. But.....
I have always stuck to the old adage If you cant match it, then contrast. I feel it will all look as if you have made a very bad attempt to match.
Also I feel that a complete contrast like black and white would be way over the top, like a black and white road crossing.
Sorry if this has been of no help at all, but you did ask! At the end of the day its your choice, plenty of magazines about to select from try a few.

I think the white granite would look good with maybe a cappicino color wall but ivory units? if that's what you mean by cabinets, I think an oak color would look good . Then you could brighten it up with accessories.
