someone told me a car service is cheaper, but I am finding taxi rates at about $45 and a towncar at about $120...is this right? Thanks

$ 45.00 is the flat cab rate, by The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) .
The only thing cheeper is AirTrain & Subway.

Best bet.. check with your hotel, thay may have a shuttle bus or arangement with a car service.

Thats correct. Taxi Service from JFK to manhattan is a flat rate of 45, plus tip. A car service is much more expensive.

Taxi is definitely cheaper than towncars. Even cheaper is using the Supershuttle ($22) or the Air Tram ($7 total).

$120 may be a bit too steep but in comparison, go with the taxi since the flat rate is $45.
