Real and dangerous. My church thoroughly believes in evil possessions and exorcisms. Well documented cases.

The only haunting is the work of the Devil and possession too.
Devils work incredibly convincing miracles (Revelation 13:13, 14). Satan and his angels will appear as angels of light (2 Corinthians 11:14) and, even more shocking, as Christ Himself (Matthew 24:23, 24). The universal feeling will be that Christ and His angels are leading out in a fantastic worldwide revival. The entire emphasis will seem so spiritual and be so supernatural that only God's elect will not be deceived.

The souls of those who have ended their mortal time do not return to "haunt"... and they sure do not "possess".... There are evil spirits who mimic the departed and are able to look and sound like whoever they want to... The forces of evil know all about every one and if they want to they can appear at a seance or in your bedroom at night and tell you where your great grandma buried the family treasure...
The forces of evil are very real and can cause great harm.... to the point of influencing mortals to kill each other.
Any reported "hauntings" or "possessions" are the work of the forces of evil.

Possession is of the Devil...remember the swine?Demon possessed..I believe with or without a religions view point.

my religion believes more in spirit communication and spirit inspiration
we view possesions and hauntings as something that can be explained in other ways
