Thanks to the person under me, but I said I need something BEFORE i go to the doctors. My mother gets off at 5:00 and the doctor's arent open, and tomorrow we may not be able to make it as well.

My brother has strep throat and just went to the doctor a couple of days ago. His throat is still hurting badly, but he can swallow now. They said he is contagious for 48 hours after beginning antibiotics. This disease is very dangerous if left untreated. I lost a young uncle at 9 yrs. old to Rheumatic fever which started as a sore throat. The family was poor, he didn't complain to his mother and then it was too late.

For now and throughout your treaatment, be sure to drink plent of water to flush your system. Lemon and honey may soothe your throat. I wouldn't do warm water because that may even irritate the inflammation.

Best wishes!

I've had strep a couple times and normally you need antibiotics, over the counter items are not effective in my experience. Plus, strep is highly contagious and there is a risk of severe infection.

If cost is an issue, you should be able to go to your local health department for treatment. I know Walmart, Target, and Meijer have programs set up where you can get prescription antibiotics for discounted rates or free.

This is from WebMd:
Strep throat should never be taken lightly. Untreated, the disease can quickly lead to a more severe illness such as acute nephritis (which can damage your kidneys), meningitis, or rheumatic fever, all of which can be fatal.

You should get to the doctor as soon as possible if you really think you have strep. You need to be put on antibiotics. Until then, you can take ibuprofren for the pain and gargle with warm salt water.

Warm salt water gargles, Tylenol, throat lozenges and topical throat sprays may help alleviate some of your pain until you can get to your doctor.
