What to look for when buying a use car?

Am thinking of either going to a car dealership, auction, or look in the newspaper. What things should I look for? Am looking for models in the late 90's and up.

Check out the recent Consumer Reports issue on buying a vehicle. They list some dog models to stay away from.

Do some online research on prices to educate yourself on the market price for the vehicle you want. That will make you an informed consumer and much more likely to make a good decision.
