Are we part of therir pride? Are we bigger cats? Who's the Alpha leader, us or them? Are we just food and attention givers? Any thoughts or stories? I've thought about it but can't decide.

As their pets. They think they are better cause they have nine lives and we have only one. Their favourite pet is the one that gives the food. When they are finished playing with their pets they go to sleep and ignore them.

I have always heard it said that Dogs think that they are human...While cats think we are cats. Thats not completly true but it does describe the pets mind set. A dog will bring you the ball and catch it when you throw it over and over...While a cat may bring the ball then fetch it if he wants to...Or it might just walk off bored.
In a cats world the cat is king. While they can be the most loving thing in the universe when they want to. They can just as easily turn their attention to a bird or fly and and forget about all of that.
But if cared for and loved they can return care and love tenfold....When they want to... Remember that they are independant in nature.

This is just my opinion - I've had three cats, two living now. I adopted them from a shelter. I don't believe I am a cat to them, but I am the Alpha leader (though that is usually a canine term). I am the person that they know will provide them with a place to live and food and water. I will give them treats, I will play with them, and I will share most of my life with them. Beyond that, it's a crapshoot! I feel their gratitude and their love, but then there are those other times like when I wake up from a sound sleep and my little black cat Dahlia is sitting three inches from my eyes staring right at mine! At those times, I don't know what to think so I thank her for watching over me!?

:-) good luck with this question!

Cats have different personalities. I believe my cat thinks I'm part of it's pride. That's just based on films I've seen of Lions in Africa sleeping all piled up on each other, which is how my cat sleeps with my wife and I. She doesn't seem to care when we move around and roll over, she just finds a different position to sleep in.

i think of a u . s . cat isn't comparable to a city or suburb cat. on account which you reside in an area the place you have few acquaintances and have possibly ascertained that anybody close by isn't likely to break your cats this could be an exception to the "shop cats indoors" rule. whether, a large style of the human beings asking questions approximately letting cats outdoors do not stay in rural areas, and for them, preserving their cats indoors (or very heavily controlled outdoors situations) is the wisest direction of action.

Great question - read The Tribe of Tiger by anthropologist Elizabeth Marshall Thomas. You'll never look at cats the same again.

I have 2 cats. I do try to let me know that I am boss, but I think they see me more as a servant. I feed them, clean their litterbox and when they are cutting it up and meowing at the door in the middle of the night, I'm up filling their food dish...etc...to try to get them to leave me alone. They know they have it made! LOL

We are here to serve them.

My cat believes that even though I am sleeping, I should wake up and pet her and if I don't she will pat me with her paw until I wake up.

She also believes that every nook and cranny is hers. Cats do not answer to the word "No" to them you're saying No, but they hear Yes.

I agree with formerly_mcwriter, My femake cat has to be near me all the time. if i get up to go to the other room she has to follow me. when i'm on the computer she has to be in front of the key board or next to the mouse. this can be a problem sometimes but i put up with it. i love her.

I saw this once on PBS but they said that cats see us as their kittens. Because they often will bring us dead things, mice, frogs, etc. Just as they would for their kittens. Just imagine their shame when we don't take it in our mouths and throw it in the air. They are trying to teach us how to hunt. Well that's just one of the many opinions on it.
