Thank you for the good responces to my plee for help, believe me, Frankie is so much more than a pet, I have no kids, they are my kids, I have cryed for 3 days, I can't quit, the Vet is doing everything possible to save my Frankie, we have taken him there everyday for fluid treatments, if he dies I will never get over it, I just want to stirke out at the person/people that are responcible for this cruel action, I think some of you got the wrong impression about me, I'm sorry for that, you have no idea how deeply this is hurting me, watching my cat suffer, hoping, praying for a miracle, now that we just found out it's rat poison I'm waiting for the vet to call me back to see what to do. I just wanted to say Thank-you for the notes of support from alot of you, and for the prayers, I hope none of you ever have to go through this, just imagine a 13 pound 22 month old cat (spoiled rotten) now only 8 1/2 pounds, crying for me to make him better, cuz' mom can fix everything right? My heart truly goes out to you. I hope your poor kitty will recover. My cats are my life too, and I can only imagine what you are going through.

Good luck, sweetheart.

just hope, pray, and believe in the lord our god that he will get well, or at least go to a better place. I've suffered the same as you. It will hurt, you'll want to blame everyone else, and then yourself, but it will feel better with time. focus you attention on the other cats. They will be grieving too. If you can split a babby asprin, it may take away some of the pain, but it won't heal him. Kiss him all the time, and tell him that you're ready to let him go even if you're not. He'll understand you. He doesn't need to prolong his pain for you. Tell him it's okay to let go. I'm so sorry. I've done this before. You can always talk to me if need be, and I hope this advice has helped.

I'm soooo sorry for you and Frankie. My cat Velta died in January from renal failure, he was 17 years old. Your baby has youth on his side, and all of us praying. Ask your vet if you can do the fluids at home, he may be able to put a catheter/port in and Frankie may be much more comfortable having mommy do it instead of going to the vet. I really hope he makes it, I really do. Just realize that it's not your fault, you love your babies, and some very bad people did some very bad things, and you are trying to save him. If he does not make it, just know that he will be looking down kindly upon you until the day you can meet again. Good luck.

I lost my cat Sweetie a couple years ago to a brain tumor, and I thought I would never be able to get over it, it was an emotional nightmare. Two years later, I have two beautiful shelter cats, and Sweetie's picture looks down on them from the refrigerator door. As hard as it is, my advice to you is to get an honest answer from your vet NOW re: costs involved to save Frankie's life - IF it can be saved at all. Tough questions and tough answers now will save more heartbreak later! It is more heartbreaking to watch an animal slog through a painful descension into mortality than to save them the misery now. As terrible as it may feel the best option may be to put Frankie down and take solace in the care of your other pets. Or, there are millions of cats at shelters around the country that would love to give you a new friend! If this is related to the pet foods recall, you could probably consider legal action but all that would do, IMO, is lengthen your mourning period.

I am so sorry. The fluids will help flush the kidneys and rehydrate your cat. This will make him more comfortable...at the least. Your cat is very young to be in renal failure. No doubt it is from the recalled food. I understand your loss. The problem for our companion animals is the lack of legal rights they have. It is horrific and cruel to consider animals nothing more than property under the law in most states. That having been said...the best thing you can do for your cat is just what you are doing. Vet care...but on your part, try and remain positive and strong. Your companion will sense your sadness and anger. This can stress your cat and he is fighting for his life. Have faith, be there for him. That is more than doing nothing. Sometimes, and this is sad...but if we cannot save our animals, the best we can do is allow them a death surrounded by love. I do understand your loss and hurt. Cats are known for 9 lives...hopefully she will remain with you for many more years. I'll keep you and Frankie in my thoughts. Cats have angels who bring on miracles. I have seen it before. Believe.

I didn't see your initial post. Check out www.menufoods.com/recall and see if your cat food is on the list. My cat spent over two days in the vet hospital being pumped full of fluids and force-fed. She had just had kittens two days earlier. She is fine now but won't eat anything but dry food now. She had eatten some food from this list. She went into kidney failure and the vet really didn't expect her to live. Just keep fluid in her to flush out the poison (if she ate the food). Fox news is reporting that there was rat poisoning in the wheat gluten from China that got into all this cat/dog food.

I am so sorry for you. I lost a cat to kidney failure about 3 years ago and I still look for him every day when I come home because he would wait in the window for me. He was in that window for 14 years. I miss him terribly. Your kitty has youth on his side and I will be praying for him to recover. Maybe now that the vet nows what he is dealing with it will help him know how to best treat him. Good luck.

In some cases, a specific cause for the renal failure may be identified (eg, bacterial infection of the kidneys) and if this is the case, treatment for the cause may be possible. In most cases however, a cause will not be identified and treatment is aimed at managing the renal failure. Some cats may require initial intravenous fluids to correct dehydration (and perhaps electrolyte abnormalities), but once stable, treatment is aimed at supporting renal function and minimising the complications of renal failure. Chronic renal failure cannot be reversed, and in most cases, will progress over time despite appropriate therapy.

Optimal management of renal failure usually requires repeat investigations at regular intervals (including blood pressure assessment, blood and urine tests) to identify treatable complications as they arise, eg, anaemia (a reduction in circulating red blood cells), low potassium, high phosphate, urinary infections, and hypertension.

You might still manage to save him.

Thi site also offers a lot of help and support. You can look at the list of foods your cat may have eaten, hear from others with the same problem and look at lawsuits.

My heart goes out to you! I too, have no children, only my "babies". I have had my Buggie for 11 years and she is like 16 pounds. I know that I would be completely devasted if/when something happens to her. I relish every day I have with her and all my other babies. People without pets just do not understand! I have had someone tell me "she is JUST a cat". Not to me! Bless your heart and I hope your lil Frankie has a speedy recovery!

I will pray for you both. :)
