Did Moses think it was OK?

Is that why he lied to the Israelites?

I don't know about Moses, but I believe it is indeed necessary (at times) to omit the truth in order to protect.

Thats another good question. I believe lies are sins as other relgious believers can say that. But I believe telling a lie as the loving thing to do for that person is ok, as long as it's nothing too big.
I lie a lot, yeh sometimes I use it in a wrong precpective. But I mainly do it to protect my friends feelings. A silly example imaginey our in a shop with someone older then you and they ask if you like the top there just about to buy its like a immidiate reaction to say you like it. Its respectful in most cases, Im 15 and I wouldn't dream of saying no to someone whos like 10 years older me and over.

It's ok to lie in any situation as long as it benefits you. So, yes, it's okay. I'm not sure what Moses lied to the Israelites about, but it was okay if he did as long as it benefited him.

Sho...not sure what "lie" you are referring to. If it was that he would take them to the promised land...when he told them that he also believed it. It was their actions and return to pagan gods that ruined their chance to ever enter into the promised land. I always thought that was a sad part of the story after they had come so far.

But, aside from Moses, I cannot think of any lies people would tell for "someone's" own good.

It's never okay to lie about anything. I think sometimes it's better for us to keep our big mouths shut on things, that is not lying. or pick what we say carefully as to not crush people with our words.
Where does it say in the bible that Moses lied to the Isrealites? I think you might have some wrong information.

I think it is. Like the scenario of the beaten girlfriend - she bangs on your door, asks to be hidden from her abusive boyfriend (of course you let her in), and when the boyfriend comes looking, you either lie by omission ("I really can't say where she is") or you lie directly ("she's not here, now get off my property").

A lot of people let "lying by omission" fly out the window at that point so that they can claim "ah, but you don't REALLY have to lie if you give a non-answer". I don't know if they're right... do you think so? I tend to think that misleading someone with "playing ignorant" or "non-response" is still lying by omission.

And sometimes it's permissible when you know something and it's not your right to divulge the information. I've been in this situation. I've known something very personal about a friend of mine, and my sisters all knew that I "knew something". They kept on me about it for over a year but... it wasn't my secret to tell, so I couldn't.

Personally, I believe it is okay to lie to someone if it's for their own good. The only reason to tell them the truth is if they know your lying and ask you to tell them. Or tell them years later after the situation passes by.

We don't have proof moses really existed except in documents that were written hundreds of years after he died, and those documents have been translated multiple times for thousands of years.

No it is not ok to lie. We pray that we put on the belt of truth and that we walk in the light of truth that is Jesus Christ. Although we want to be sensitive to others' feelings, you can still be tactful and loving by telling the truth. My pastor puts it this way "a friend can cut you like a surgeon to heal you but an enemy cuts you to stab you in the back." Sometimes what you tell a friend may hurt them but it's to help them like a surgeon's cut.

you should all ways tell some one the truth. good or bad. when they do find out what really happened they will be more hurt from telling a lie then the situation itself. if you were lied to about something and you found out the truth, how would you feel?? what would you do?

There are things called white lies. They're white because they are lies for a good purpose. Maybe it's ok, a sort of expediency.

Moses needed some work. Don't forget, he started out as a basket case.
