eventually, all tattoos fade to some degree. it all depends on your skin tone, how old the tattoo is, blah blah blah. there's stuff out there that you can put on your tattoo to help preserve the colors, but i haven't tried it. it's a good idea though not to overexpose any tattoo to sunlight, not only will the sun hasten the fading process but the darker your skin gets the less visible the tattoo will be. i know lighter colors tend to fade faster, yet every tattoo that is done with black ink will eventually turn blue. but you usually have a good amount of time before a tattoo will "need" a touchup. i've seen ladies in their 50's with tattoos that look amazing, while others are so faded you can't tell what the hell it used to be (don't let that scare you though, these were probably done many years ago and i'm sure tattoos done nowadays have a longer lifespan). point is, it really does depend, but either way you have a long time until a touchup would be needed

Sorry to be vague, but it depends. It depends on the artwork, on the location, inks used, and how well the tattoo is "aging" due to sun exposure and time.

Many of us like the way our tattoos look as they get older. There is something to be said for 'collecting' pieces of fine art on our bodies that were done by professionals we may not see EVER again for touching up. Would it be right to have just ANYONE mess with it?

they will all need to be touched up some time. get whatever you want and don't worry about that.
