Ford doesn't make a true "sports" car. A real sports car has to be a 2 seater. If it has a back seat, it's a coupe, not a sports car, so the mustang doesn't count. A true sports car's only purpose is to look good and go fast with very little compromise for practicality. Most importantly, it must be fun to drive. A drive in a sports car should be an experience completely different than a drive in Grandma's Oldsmobile, in which the thrill of the ride is more important than the destination. The closest Ford ever came to building a real sports car is the original 1950's T-bird and even that didn't really have the performance to back up the looks. As for the Ford GT, it is a very low production exotic with a price tag that is unobtainable unless you are a professional athlete or a rock star, so it doesn't really count if you can't actually go to your local dealer and buy one.

They only made 3, the 55-57 Thunderbird, 66-67 GT-40, (very few were sold to the public) and the new Ford GT ( very few raced)

oh, I forgot the Ford Probe I, II, III use in the 80's to set speed records, none sold to the public

the GT90 mentioned above was a concept car and never
sold to the public

Oh, and I might add, sports cars don't have back seats. and the few Mustangs built without them were build by tuners, and not Ford, Shelby's, Roush, Saleens and a couple of others

it all depend on your price range and what it your taste in cars
mine personal favorite is 2004 Ford Shelby Cobra Concept
but if i want a rally slag sport car i buy a RS200. For tuning sport car i would buy Ford Escort Cosworth. and lastly if i am having a mid life crisis i but MK2 Ford Escort Mexico

Depends on your price range. If you have 500 grand, the Ford GT will Blow. Your. Socks. Off.

The Mustang GT can be had for around 30 grand, and is unbelievable.

The Focus SVT (or whatever they are calling it now), is sporty, quick, and economical. Goes for around 25 grand.
