Do you agree with the way the Bible says you should treat your slaves?

Do you agree that anyone who commits adultery should be executed?

If you do not agree with the handling of slaves or stoning anyone who commits adultery, how can you then turn around and use passages in the Bible to discriminate against homosexuality?

Help me follow your logic. I would sincerely like to know how Christians pick and choose which parts of the Bible to follow and which ones to completely ignore?

And on a side note, do you think Jesus taught love and compassion or hatred and discrimination?

I needed to be more specific with my question. I like to read what people think because I have a very hard time wrapping my mind around how Christians are taught to love and accept, yet, hold onto certain passages from the OT and use them to discriminate.

I'm not gay, btw. I'm just accepting of everyone and I don't need God or Jesus to teach me this. Some of you have forgotten the teachings of Jesus.

You are committing a sin that Paul warned against---giving a PRIVATE interpretation to scripture in order to manipulate public opinion. This is commonly known as witchcraft. If you knew anything of Jesus you would know that he did not teach hatred or discrimination, but he did not condone sin either. Since you do not agree with the word of God you therefore commit sin. You must accept ALL of the Bible or none of it, and homosexuality is condemned in both the Old Testament and the New Testament. You may not desire to be heterosexual in your orientation, but this does not give you the right to practice homosexual behavior any more than my aversion to homosexuality gives me the right to be sexually irresponsible. What applies for one side of the fence applies for the other side.

I never got my father drunk and slept with him, the way Lot's daughters did...but I do understand why they did it. They thought he was the only man left alive, and they wanted children. So, no, everything in the Bible does not necessarily apply to me todayh.
Jesus told us that the law of divorce was given because, as He put it, of the hardness of people's hearts. Don't you suppose some of these other laws, that were given back then, were for the same reason? For instance, how to treat slaves. If God hadn't given them some guidelines, can you imagine how much worse those people would have treated slaves?
No, I don't think anyone who commits adultery ought to be stoned...and neither does Jesus. Remember when a group of men dragged a woman caught in the act of adultery to Him? "Let the one with no sin throw the first stone," He told them, and that pretty much ended it. To the woman, He simply said "go, and sin no more." Given the problems sin had already caused for her, you have to admit, that was pretty good advice.
I don't believe homosexuals ought to be stoned, either, but "go and sin no more" is good advice for them too.
Your "side note" is the most important part of your entire question. Jesus taught love and compassion, obviously.

I follow Gods word. I don't follow the lifestyle people lived in Biblical times. Many things that were a "way of life" back then, like slavery are no longer acceptable today. Jesus taught love and compassion. The hatred, fear and discrimination were a part of the way life was back then.

Excellent query and facets raised. Yes the Bible continues replacing to fit the preachers and fans. It might be a well proposal to not following something within the Bible when you consider that the Bible is trash. The Bible is the most important load of rubbish and codswallop ever written by means of guy, and I’m definite it's going to pass down in historical past because the finest load of gobbledygook ever to inflict such disturbing intellectual and bodily harm on humanity, however nonetheless at present, a few persons alas suppose the Bible to be actual. That’s very unhappy certainly. Very unhappy. When persons quote more than a few passages from the Bible, for instance ... Mathew five:29-30 God inspired self-mutilation. Isaiah thirteen:15-18 God allowed ladies raped and little kids slaughtered. Genesis 6:eleven-17 and seven:eleven-24 God is the finest mass homicide in historical past. What occurs? Religious persons pop up from underneath each stone with the equal historical rubbish. “That used to be the historical Bible, or we’ve transformed the that means, or unsuitable interpretation, or we’ve transformed the context, or the rates are out of context or or or, excuse after excuse.” The reality is, they're Bible rates, and the Bible is stuffed with evil atrocities which devout persons regularly quilt up, but appear completely satisfied to drum into the minds of gullible little kids. This is this type of shameful shame in a civilised global. If devout persons are not able to use common-sense and good judgment to increase a sensible ethical code to are living by means of, then might be they might strip out of the Bible the evil, murders, rapes, abuse, and all disturbing references. Granted there may not be plenty left to learn, however no less than devout persons might become with a tight ethical code to comply with centered on well, and no longer scare the residing daylights out of blameless little kids.

I had a arguement once with a very biblical literalist Christian who believes the bible is infallible, the DIRECT WORD OF GOD HIMSELF and EVERY directive it gives is 100% applicable and its laws are meant to be followed yesterday, TODAY, TOMORROW.

That is intellectually lazy thinking! OF COURSE the bible has CULTURAL and HISTORIC limitations! Christians like that make all Christians look silly and therefore invite questions like yours.

The bible was written by men, it reflects the thinking of that age and the culture of that age certain aspects of which in today's world would be considred ignorant or inhumane. This does NOT mean that the bible cannot also be Divinely inspired, which the bible IS. It clearly reflects Divine and universal wisdom that extends BEYOND, culture, time, history and to me that reflects the influence of a HIgher Power.

But you need you USE YOUR COMMON SENSE and not take EVERYTHING word for word. For example, in Leviticus it says if you want to cure leprosy (Hanson's Disease) you must go to a priest, sacrifice doves and spread ashes. If our modern day doctors were to do this, they would be sued for malpractice.

In addition, if you understand the Law and the significance of Jesus becoming THE LIVING WORD and fulfilling the law, then you know that there is only one law- Christ. Only his commandements matter.

What came before Jesus and what came after is not the main focus of Christianity.

Unfortuantely, certain Christians who claim to worship Jesus as THE LIVING WORD, do not. Thet worship the bible as the LIVING WORD, instead. They are preoccupied with all kinds of legalistic and logical, symbolism and deductions and calculations and fortune telling and prophesy foretelling about when the world will end. They spend their time trying to "judge" God's mind on everything, using a book and not the Spirit Of Christ within their hearts and placing "heavy burdens" on their brothers and sisters. Endless bible books for sale spin off from this and it is a multi-million dollar business.

That is idolatry.

I believe if we follow anything from the Bible it should be "judge not less ye be judged" No exceptions. God is love , no exceptions. We are all sinners. And God will be the judge when our time comes until then, who can really say what is right or wrong.

Do you understand the New Covenant through Jesus Christ? Do you understand that through Him we are now under grace? That we are not bound by the law, but we are saved by His wonderful grace? (Ephesians 2:8)
The Old Testament of course is God's word and we should believe every word...for those stories DID happen, and God teaches us much through His word. God shows His power and glory through His word! It is all truth. But you must know that God tells US who are saved to LOVE one another and share the good news of Jesus Christ with them- For the Lord is so merciful right now, you have no idea! Do you even realize what the Lord has done? That he took our punishment on the cross, and died and rose again so those who believe would be saved from sin and hell? Because HE LOVES us, those that repent of sin and trust Him will have eternal life. He loved us that much! Do you know the seriousness of sin? Look at God's law, for it is a mirror to show us we have sinned against Him....we all fall short of His glory (Romans 3:23) But Christ died for us (Romans 5:8) and when you get rid of that pride and see the gospel for what it is, to see the GRACE of God through Jesus Christ, there is nothing more beautiful. We all deserve hell, but through the grace of God he has given us freedom through Jesus Christ, and this gift only comes once--in this life. Praise Be to Him!

John 1:17
For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

John 11:25
Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies;

No,and who said we are to do so?Logic?Easy.Everything taught in Scripture has to be filtered from the O.T. through the N.T.There are legitimate reasons for the cruelty found in the O.T.;just as there are good reasons governments punish lawbreakers.
