i work in a transport cafe in hemel hempstead (south east) which serves people who travel from all over the country...and i have found good & bad in everyone....

- but i have to be honest...the Geordies (Newcastle) - are the happiest..jolliest people i have met - always full of jokes & up for a laugh...even though they travel a long way..to & fro - to do their work...nothing ever seems to get them down & they dont bring their problems to work with them!! they get my vote!

I'd say up north has the friendliest people. Like near Manchester and Liverpool. Also down in Devon, the town of Torquay has some very friendly people. London is the least friendly in the sense that generally people are more stick to themselves there. I'm an American who's travelled to many different areas of the UK and that's been my experience.

I'm a Yank who has only visited the UK and don't qualify as an expert. I've only been in London, Cumbria, Northumberland, Yorkshire and southern Scotland.

But, in my opinion, there is no area that I've been in that does not have extraordinarily friendly people.

The people we met London, often described as an unfriendly city, were very gracious to me and my family.

The folks in the northern counties and in Scotland seemed to go far out of their way to make us feel at home.

As beautiful as the UK is, the people are the best advertisement for UK travel.

I've heard Dorset has lovely countryside, but doubt it. No place has a monopoly on nice people. They make the world liveable.

I say Dorset or Manchester... Probably the smaller urban areas have the nicer people.

the only place i would consider living in England is Cornwall....
trouble is too many people had the same idea...so i moved to Wales.
Cornish are as good as it gets and I'm London born and bred.
