Well, the Mayans were incredibly accurate astronomers, and how they made their calculations so accurately so far in advance is still beyond us.

On 12/21/2012 the last cycle of their calender will be ending. This also lines up with an incredibly rare planetary alignment and winter solstice, again, both predicted over 1,000 years before. This does not necessarily mean they predicted the end of the world. Actually, it is supposedly supposed to signal entering into the age of light, from the age of darkness. This does not necessarily mean chaos.

Actually, present day Mayans, though I don't know how accurate these present day followers are, say it could be a catastrophic situation, or it could come peaceful, depending on how the human race reacts.

Though it is interesting that there have been many sleepers, who have claimed they have had visions of sometime in 2013 in camps, with hardly anyone alive.

I'm not going to say my views, I'm not big into prophecy, but I'm a huge scholar of the Mayan traditions. They were a truly interesting culture.

I will say that those of you comparing this to the millennium, or Bible prophecy do not know about what the Mayans accomplished. Their prophecies were not so vague that anything could fit into them, and they have been incredibly accurate.

because the Mayans predicted that in 2012 this age of the world will end, and a new one begin. For some reason, people think that the Mayans were authority statements on the end of time and thus believe them.

The folks at Family Radio believe the Final Judgment and Second Coming of Christ will be in the fall of 2011.

For example see the book “Time Has an End” on line at:
http://www.timehasanend.org/public/en_time_has_an_end_cont.html

This group, whose primary teacher is one Harold Camping, also believes the Church Age has ended in 1988 and believers are to come out of the churches as they are now under the control of malevolent forces now that the Tribulation has begun.

See the book Time Has an End, Ch. 10:
http://www.timehasanend.org/public/en_time_has_an_end_ch10.html

That said, the online audio lectures at Family Radio, are illuminating and worth a listen:
See: http://worldwide.familyradio.org/zusa/english/connect/audio_archive/echoes/frame/download/download.html

Finally, for the offline version of the Family Radio nightly call in show, where folks ask questions about the bible to Mr. Camping, see:
http://worldwide.familyradio.org/zusa/english/connect/audio_archive/forum/frame/

I am not endorsing Family Radio’s doctrines, but one is able to learn quite a bit by listening to these materials.

Mayan calendar ends in December of 2012. Certain planets align during that time, predicted by Mayans and confirmed by our own astrologists... the alignment is supposed to cause great catastrophe's in the world. The Mayan's viewed that as the end of their way of life, which of course we know that part wasn't a good prediction... their way of life ended with the Spaniards.

The Mayan calendar ends in 2012, but I don't think that will be the end. It will be an eventful moment no doubt, but not the end. If anything, it will be a beginning!

Thanks to the first person who answered (sorry I cannot see your entire ID and my browser may crash if I click on the profile) and others too, now I know what that saying comes from.

No I don't believe in it. It is much better than to worry from now to 2012. Now, however, if there is a scientific report that says a meteor is heading our way, I would be worried.
