baptized bretheren will be saved on the day of judgement, that he cannot possibly "respect" the beliefs of others, for he/she knows that the flames of hell have been stoked by these very ideas and await their adherens even now?

Yes. They don't respect other beliefs, because they think that they alone are right. Christians might think that their concern for other people is only love, but it's quite patronizing to tell other people that none of them know what they're talking about.

Christians are naive if they think that they alone know "the truth." Apparently over 95% of people in Asia and other parts of the world are all hopelessly deluded and unimportant since Christianity has so little presence there. Do Christians really believe in a God who would send billions of people to hell, because they happen to be born into non-Christian countries outside of the West?

I would agree to some extent that expectation or rather certainty of eternal rewards later creates an egocentric expectation of rewards NOW as well in some Christians but not all mind you. One should not generalize.

I have seen "certain" Christians carry on on this forum in a way that shows they think themselves ‘special’ and ‘superior’ to those “evil non-believers.” This “us vs. them” attitude creates violent friction in our world because the “saved” feel they must impose upon the “unsaved” not just through overbearing proselytising but also in dictating social policy for everyone.

You should know though that currently, there are talks within certain Christian sects of revising their views about hell, taking a second look at biblical doctrine and the understanding of the Hebrew and Greek translations.
Keep in mind that in the book of Revealations, hell was cast into the lake of fire. This means hell is not forever, so therefore, neither is the torment there.

I would prefer if people join Christianity out of love, not fear. The million-dollar questions of course are, “If everyone WILL acheive salvation in the afterlife (Because this IS actually what God intends- that ALL reach salvation) if not immediately then eventually and your reward was not as exclusive you think, will you still love God?”

When I put this forth to "certain" Christians and ask them if they do not simply feel very glad, releaved and grateful that God is more accepting than they expected? They don’t. They WANT to get that last laugh and be able to look down, all superior, upon the poor unfortunate souls and say, ‘I told you so!’ For them heaven is no fun without it. LOL.

Please write out all your beliefs on a 3x5 card. If you have more than will fit on a 3x5 card, I suggest you throw some out. Now read your 3x5 card over a few times and ask yourself: Do I really expect anybody else to respect what I have written here?

Now pretend that I am walking by. You hand me your card and say,

You: "Sir do you respect the beliefs I have written down on this card?"

Me: "There is very little written here that I can agree with. In fact I might have some other ideas you should consider."

You: "But Sir, do you respect what is written here?"

Me: "Am I not showing some respect by considering your ideas?"

You: "Maybe a little."

Me: Beliefs are ideas or concepts by which we operate. They are the tools of this existence. Important as tools are; respect goes to the workman, no matter how fine the product.

Now I am a carpenter. Respect me, admire the house I build and do consider what kind of hammer I use. But don't waste your respect on the hammer.

My hammers and your ideas will change; broken, worn out, improved, replaced, borrowed, lost and stolen. What good then is respect; if we waste it on ideas and lose it for God and for each other.

Finally, I see here that you believe in hell. I have heard of four hells in my lifetime and seven heavens. I know three heavens and three hells by study; but only one hell and one heaven by experience.

Hell is buying into the ideas of men. Heaven is having the mind of Christ. What you possess here you possess there.

That's a good question. How can you respect someone else's beliefs when you are utterly convinced they are wrong? Even if you say, "whatever, believe what you want you are going to hell" that isn't really what I'd call respectful. You are just basically blowing them off as stupid and deserving of eternal torment. To truly respect something, you have to be able to see and understand both sides, something most christians won't do.

'Respect' and 'agree with' are two different concepts. I will respect the right of anybody to believe whatever they want to believe, but i will agree with only what is the truth, and that truth is the Bible. My profession dictates that I must preach the gospel of Jesus Christ whether the listeners want to hear it or not. I will not force anyone to receive Jesus because it is impossible to do so. A person that wants to remain unsaved will stubbornly resist the gospel. It is not my position to worry over this or brow-beat people, but to proclaim the word of God and move on. It is the Holy Spirit that convicts of sin and the Lord Jesus Christ who saves. I am merely a messenger.

This is the only thing that will be what each faces on Judgment Day.

Are you a good person? What a question, most of us believe that we are good people because we can look around and find someone that is far worse than we are. We can always point to the things that we think make us a good person.

But how good are we really? Dare we take this test and look at ourselves and see if we really are good? Hmmm.

If you are willing try this and see just how good a person you are.

The Good Person Test.

How will you do? Pass or fail?

Have you ever told a lie?
Doesn't matter how big or small, just a lie.
What does that make you? Before answering think about this, if I told you a lie what would you call me? A liar?

Have you ever stolen anything? Cost doesn't matter, a piece of gum, failed to give back an ink pen that you borrowed, anything.
What does that make you?

Jesus said, "You know the saying of old, you shall not commit adultery but I say that if look at someone to lust after them you have committed adultery in your heart.
Have you ever lusted?

Jesus said that hate is equal to murder.
Have you ever hated anyone?

See one day we all are going to stand before a Holy God on Judgment Day and he is going to judge us based on His Holy Law, the Ten Commandments. These are just 4 of them and how did you do? Guilty? I have broken all of these and more, what about you? How well will you do on Judgment Day?

If we break just one point of God's Law we are guilty of breaking all the law and Gods Wrath abides upon us all. Based on God's Law we are all guilty and all are deserving of punishment. But there is an out for us.

Jesus paid the price for each one of us, took on himself God's Wrath so we wouldn't have to face it on our own. Jesus was beaten, battered, bleed and died so we wouldn't have to face God's Wrath. He rose again so that we would life in his presence. Our crimes, His payment.

The real question is where will you stand on Judgment Day. Pay yourself or have it paid for you. Think about it.

No.

You can respect other beliefs without actually adhering to those beliefs.

You can also respect other beliefs even if you think they are not the truth.

Otherwise, how can an atheist respect anyone's belief?

Yes that's exactly what I have been trying to tell my Christian brothers all along. But oh so many of them insist on tolerance, And respect for all these heathen beliefs. Why cant they understand it's these very heathen beliefs that we must avoid at all cost. God be praised Hallelujah.

2007-03-23 13:18:59 · answer #8 · answered by Anonymous · 0 1

Nope. A Christian can be just as capable as anyone else to have respect for others though he does not agree.

2007-03-23 13:09:31 · answer #9 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

Sure.

Christians must believe that anyone that doesn't think their way is going to hell. It also gives them a superiority complex as well as makes them hypocrites.
