They don't believe Jesus is God is the main difference. They've also modified their bibles to line up with their doctrine, predicted (as a whole) that Jesus would come back on several specific dates and I believe they only think 144,000 will go to heaven.

They do not believe in the Trinity. They do not celebrate holidays or birthdays. Layllalu (whatever your name is), i am not a jehovah's witness either but let's reverse the question....where does it say in the bible that we should celebrate christmas, thanksgiving, halloween (celebration of bad spirits?), Easter (bunnies & eggs; what does that got to do with the death of Christ?) jehovah's witnesses do not celebrate these because it is all man-made traditions and not originated in the Bible. The only occasion i know of that Jesus told us to do is written in Luke 22:19 --which Jesus said, 'Keep doing this in remembrance of me,' --which is his death. He did not mentioned anything about bright colors, bunnies, or egg hunts. How are Jehovah's witnesses different from other Christians? They don't get paid for preaching or performing weddings or funerals. their elders and all their members that are working in New York (the printing location) works voluntarily...and yet, they are being fed spiritually, materially, have medical insurance, a place to sleep, have decent clothes....etc.... now who is being blessed?
They don't sing out of their hearts? hahahaa..... they are the only religion who doesn't have their prayers MEMORIZED. I have many friends who are in this religion and i do envy them for their association.

Jehovah's Witnesses do not believe in the TRINITY. I'm starting to think they are right not to believe in it because i do not see a logic explanation on trinity anywhere in the Bible. If Jesus is God and is the same as the Father, why would Jesus say, "Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing?" when he was being impaled? Was he talking to HIMSELF???? Or who's voice was it that came down from Heaven when Jesus was baptized and said, "THIS IS MY SON, whom I have approved?" Please...anyone explain it to me!!! Only Jehovah's witnesses gave me a satisfying answer: because Jesus is SON of God and the Father is "higher than Jesus."
JWs do not celebrate Christmas. Again, why should they? There's no where in the Bible that Jesus said to celebrate his birthday. He did say that we should remember his death. So, that's the only Biblical celebration jehovah's witnesses celebrate.
I hate to admit it but Jehovah's Witnesses have a very good understanding of the Bible. Unlike us, other Christians, we only know what we HEAR... have any of us read the whole Bible? from Genesis to Revelation? I know a lot of Jehovah's Witnesses who have read it ... and i know more who makes it a goal to read the bible EVERYDAY. Damn! Now, that is what i call a true Christian!

JWs are different in the same manner that the first Christians were different from their Brethren Jews who consider Christ to be an uneducated ex-carpenter of the Jewish Lower Class who was executed for cause by the governing authority.
He recruited other uneducated, lower class individuals, such as a failed fisherman (Peter) and a hated tax collector (Matthew).
Lacking any formal education, they were easy to manipulate into believing he was the Messiah, something that was impossible, as he did not bring about the destruction (Armageddon) of the enemies of the Truly Blessed People of God, the Israelites, as was prophesied.
After his lawful execution, these clearly brainwashed followers began going door to door telling their brethren that the traditional beliefs, rituals, and observances (holidays), dating back hundreds of years, were no longer valid.
They began creating their one scriptures, to support their false beliefs, instead of relying on the Holy Torah, which had sustained God’s People for hundreds of years.
Finally, there were highly educated individuals, especially in the religious arts, such as Saul of Tarsus, who could clearly prove that they were a false cult, bent on leading God’s People down a false path to destruction.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saul_of_Tarsus
What happened to them, as a result of their false teachings, and their door to door work, was only to be expected of people who have lost their way.
Clearly, what you may or may not think of JWs is reliant on your point of view, just as it was in those first years. Having an advanced education in religion does not mean that you are right, only that you sound that way.
JWs may have come from a simple, and some times, erratic beginnings, but at least they are making a valid effort to do better. You cannot say that for other religions who:
Continue to get involved in politics;
Lie to the IRS about not doing so in order to get their non-profit status;
Avoids paying taxes on retail sales within the church;
Allows immorality to creep into the church;
Immortalizes their founders through the observance of a birthday, death, and/or anniversary of the founding of the church;
Places a pictures of the founders in all their churches, so that all can see and pay obeisance;
Gives tacit approval to the Theory of Evolution; and
Doesn’t teach their followers to preach and teach the Bible, as Christ instructed.

They are normally considered to be a Christian heresy, since they deny that Jesus was God (they think that he was an angel), they don't believe in the trinity, the doctrine of hell, or the immorality of the soul, among other things.
They seem to beleive modern day government is satanic. Only 144,000 people will fit in Heaven, so they missed the "good seats" and will remain on Earth to set up a new government for God after they die.
The central theme of their preaching is God’s Kingdom (that is, God's rule over the Earth) with Jesus Christ as its king. The Witnesses believe this rule began with the Second Coming or presence of Christ. Originally, this was believed to have occurred invisibly in 1874, but this date was later revised to 1914. They are commonly known for their door-to-door preaching and their objection to blood transfusions, and for not celebrating birthdays or holidays. Their most widely-known publications are the religious magazines "The Watchtower" and "Awake!".
They also believe that they are the only true Christians.

First let me clear a few things up. We are Christians. No we do not believe in the Trinity. As for our Bible being so different. OK we have Gods name in ours. That is a big difference. Our Bible is not the only one that has his name in it. If you look at the old KJ it will have it in a few spots Ps 83:18 being one of them. 2 Timothy 3:16; "All scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching for reproving for setting things straight for disciplining in righteousness."
We let God set the standard for our worship. There are many more differences. But using Gods name and doing the work that Jesus commented us to do. Matthew 28:19,20 "Go therefore and make disciples of people of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the son and of the holy spirit teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you. And look I am with You all the days until the conclusion of the system of things."

They feel only a certain number of people may enter the kingdom of heaven. They do not believe in celebrating holidays or birthdays. Very conservative in their beliefs.

I don't believe they are Christians. They deny the diety of Christ. Say that Jesus is michael the archangel. They don't accept Jesus as savior.
They don't celebrate holidays. (where in the Bible does it say that?)
They don't celebrate b-days. (where in the Bible does it say "don't celebrate b-days''?)
They don't sing from there hearts in church like old hymns.
They study from a man made magazine called the watchtower which tells them how to study the Bible. What to believe...
They do not know the Bible other than what they've been brain washed to know.
My best friend of 14 years stopped talking to me b/c I chose not be a witness anymore. That's just brain washed if you ask me. Poor girl.
I was raised a witness, it was an awful experience. Praise God I'm free from that now! Born Again Spirit Filled Christian! Praise Jesus! Praise God! I like to be radical for the God I serve! I have received miracle after miracle after blessing after blessing! A brand new home, baby on the way, hubby got a fat raise! Praise God! He sure does take care of his faithfull servants!

They'll let a newborn baby die before they will allow it to have a blood transfusion. I'd say that's a pretty significant difference.

(1)Â Bible: Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God, and instead of adhering to a creed based on human tradition, they hold to the Bible as the standard for all their beliefs.
(2)Â God: They worship Jehovah as the only true God and freely speak to others about him and his loving purposes toward mankind. Anyone who publicly witnesses about Jehovah is usually identified as belonging to the one group—“Jehovah’s Witnesses.”
(3)Â Jesus Christ: They believe, not that Jesus Christ is part of a Trinity, but that, as the Bible says, he is the Son of God, the first of God’s creations; that he had a prehuman existence and that his life was transferred from heaven to the womb of a virgin, Mary; that his perfect human life laid down in sacrifice makes possible salvation to eternal life for those who exercise faith; that Christ is actively ruling as King, with God-given authority over all the earth since 1914.
(4)Â God’s Kingdom: They believe that God’s Kingdom is the only hope for mankind; that it is a real government; that it will soon destroy the present wicked system of things, including all human governments, and that it will produce a new system in which righteousness will prevail.
(5)Â Heavenly life: They believe that 144,000 spirit-anointed Christians will share with Christ in his heavenly Kingdom, ruling as kings with him. They do not believe that heaven is the reward for everyone who is “good.”
(6)Â The earth: They believe that God’s original purpose for the earth will be fulfilled; that the earth will be completely populated by worshipers of Jehovah and that these will be able to enjoy eternal life in human perfection; that even the dead will be raised to an opportunity to share in these blessings.
(7)Â Death: They believe that the dead are conscious of absolutely nothing; that they are experiencing neither pain nor pleasure in some spirit realm; that they do not exist except in God’s memory, so hope for their future life lies in a resurrection from the dead.
(8)Â Last days: They believe that we are living now, since 1914, in the last days of this wicked system of things; that some who saw the events of 1914 will also see the complete destruction of the present wicked world; that lovers of righteousness will survive into a cleansed earth.
(9)Â Separate from the world: They earnestly endeavor to be no part of the world, as Jesus said would be true of his followers. They show genuine Christian love for their neighbors, but they do not share in the politics or the wars of any nation. They provide for the material needs of their families but shun the world’s avid pursuit of material things and personal fame and its excessive indulgence in pleasure.
(10)Â Apply Bible counsel: They believe that it is important to apply the counsel of God’s Word in everyday life now—at home, in school, in business, in their congregation. Regardless of a person’s past way of life, he may become one of Jehovah’s Witnesses if he abandons practices condemned by God’s Word and applies its godly counsel. But if anyone thereafter makes a practice of adultery, fornication, homosexuality, drug abuse, drunkenness, lying, or stealing, he will be disfellowshipped from the organization.
(The above list briefly states some outstanding beliefs of Jehovah’s Witnesses but by no means all the points on which their beliefs are different from those of other groups.)
