I was planning to fly in to Istanbul airport and would like to visit the Blue mosque. How long will the journey take? What mode of transportation i can take? Is there any cheap hostels near the Blue mosque? Help me on this... Thanks!

It is approximately 20 km.
You can use Havas Bus from airport.
There are lots of Hotels in the Blue Mosque.

If I remember correctly, it's about a half hour drive from the airport (more if it's rush hour -- traffic in Istanbul can be really bad...). There's also a bus at the airport that you can get info when you arrive.
the Blue Mosque area/Sultanahmet is one of the main budget hotel areas of Istanbul and a great place to stay since so many sights are within walking distance. I have stayed at a place called Hotel Alp (about 5 min from the mosque) which was run by a family and had great breakfasts in the morning. It was $20/single during a peak period a few years back -- clean, basic but with a really nice family. My friends and I have stayed there a few times since -- I am not sure if it's still open but hopefully it is.

it really depends on the type of your journey,for example if you prefer to go to Sultanahmet ( where Blue Mosque,Topkapi Palace,and Hagia Sophia is) by taxi it will only take 20 min. but if you prefer to use mass transportation ( subway from the airport to Aksaray and transit to the tramway that goes to Sultanahmet) it takes 1 hour but it is cheaper :-) you can find really cheap hostels in Gulhane (100 metres away from Sultanahmet)

Hello.
You can use the subway from the airport.. At the last station you can take the railway to Sultanahmet and Bluemosq.
It takes 30-35 minutes.
