I don't think it's at all racist to want to protect our borders. Furthermore, we have no problem with people wanting to come here for economic reasons, lots of people do. But people from other countries that come for the same reason go out and become citizens or apply to work legally and pay taxes to our government, like they should. They don't take advantage of our government, and that's the problem we have with most Mexicans. Those that come here legally and become citizens, and work under our laws, become contributing members of society, we don't mind. It's the ones that come here to make a profit for themselves without contributing to the land that has offered them so many opportunities, then expect to get free food, shelter, and health care, all at our expense!

I went to school with some Vietnamese boat people who came from a very desperate situation, physically and ecomonically. All of the kids arrived speaking very little English and within a short period of time they were speaking remarkably well. One told me that when they returned home after school they had to teach their parents and grandparents as they returned from work. They were all eager to learn. I lost track of them and wish them well.
Nobody is above learning at any age and though I understand having signs in other languages at hospitals because people under stress often misunderstand things, I can't believe how we have made it unneccesary for many to even try to learn English.
There are even billboards for the FashionBug store in my neighborhood totally in Spanish!

why are you being ignorant and asking that question? why are you only referring to mexicans? I am cuban I was born there I came to this country, learned the language, its culture...? I still do not agree with its views in all extent that people claim is good. Now if you want to go back to ur question of why racists don't get it?
1. you are being racist
2.you are making a generalized statement.. they are mexicans that know english, know culture.. maybe even better than american citizens...
3.Next time you would like to knw info..make some research?
*** to firestorm= why the insult? criminals are made in USA too did u know? I studied criminal justice.. and trust me they are based on U.S alone and a lot of their criminals are legal citizens.. why do you have in mind that only immigrants come here to commit a crime? they come here for the same reason i did, to get out of poverty...have a education...better their life.. even if it means work many jobs... they do it for their children.. or sick family members.. (i tell you this because I have met people under this circumstances) of course like everything there can be 2 different sides to everything.. but try and not to insult those who have done nothing but come here to better themselves...
*** for atlacatl**** great answer!!!

Racist don't care. I am not racist and I understand that the largest % come here for financial gain (even the drug dealers and bank robbers) and most are willing to take an honest job. It doesn't matter why they come what matters is the impact of their actions. They hurt or schools, economy, health care, roads, and legal system and have caused sharp increases in gang violence. I am speaking of the illegal immigrants from Mexico and not of the whole group. Illegals also are exploited because of their legal status. I am not against a guest worker program as it is good for all people impacted by immigration for work.

You shouldn't mind about racist, i believe all the immigrants in the USA have to take care of giving a best impresion to the American citizen, since finally, they are the people who have the rigths to be in that country.
Racist, and most american citizen don't mind if Mexican or other countries people have any reasons to go to their country, they care of how can this people contribute with USA economy.
They are not being stuborn, they have reasons to ask for the people who wants to live in the USA, work in the USA and contribute with the USA economy, to LEARN ENGLISH. And is because they make business all over the world in ENGLISH, because it would be easier for them to give capacitation in english, and the workers could be more productive if all of them speak the same languaje, wich is ENGLISH.
I live in Mexico, and only in the turistic places, you don't find english speaking persons in all of the stores, hospitals or goverment offices; i'm sure if we needed to have bilingual persons in all the services, all of our operation costs would increase.
Those are the reasons USA people wants the immigrants to speak their languaje. And immigrants should be aware of those realities, and not only demand for rigths, but to give something in exchange!

1. I am not a racist, I don't care what nationality, religion, or race a person is.
2. If someone comes here, it should be because they want to be a part of our culture, not sponge off of our generous programs. The U.S. is the most charitable country in the world, and people walk all over us for that reason.

The United States is a nation, it is not Wal-Mart. That means we are a society and culture and every member has to contribute in order to recieve benefits. People who come here just to make money and have no regard for the sociey, language or culture are disrespectful. They are societal leeches. They think this country is here to serve their needs only. That is wrong and they need to "get it", not us. That is not a matter of racism, it is common sense.

Why can't racists get it that these United States don't need them. If the racists can't respect these United States by learning the language and culture then they don't need to be here?

Since you repeat over and over the same or similar questions, here I have some information for you. It is obvious that you don’t have arguments to debate, see both sides to be more objective.
My ancestors are the native American Indians who were already here (US) after them the Hispanic Americans (from Mexico), later people from England. Ignorant people always generalize. Not all undocumented immigrants don’t pay taxes (except sales taxes that all undocumented immigrants have to pay and certain federal taxes that are included in some services like telephone). If IRS has collected $8.5 billion from Social Security and Medicare (contributed by undocumented immigrants) only on year 2004 is because many undocumented immigrants are paying taxes too. Other undocumented immigrants use social securities of others and all these people do not receive benefits. Many undocumented immigrants earn miserable wages; don’t have vacation, sick days, work overtime without receiving extra dollars for that, investors don’t offer them a health insurance. Who win? the government and investors. If investors exploit these undocumented immigrants to cut expenses, this means investors increase their revenues if they increase their revenues they pay more taxes. Therefore, these exploited undocumented immigrants pay or contribute to the economy double than many of us. The government knows this and that is why they have not done anything to protect the US border. Do extremist politicians take into account all of this when they show expenses in their states? No, never. In addition, the US exports corruption by transnational, military men spread around the word. US also intervenes in “third word countries” governments, it has the money to do it. It does not ratify international laws to protect transnational and military men around the world. These transnational many times destroy the microeconomics of those countries where the undocumented immigrants come from. All of these things make these people to leave their countries. Besides that, these transnational buy local businesses in “third world countries” since small businesses cannot compete with them. Later, these transnational sell the products and services to "illegal" people in the US. And the money undocumented immigrants send to their families members also return to the US by the transnational as well. Again, do extremist politicians show this contribution when they show their financial reports? Never.
Instead of doing something to protect the US border or legalize undocumented immigrants who contribute to this nation, the government of the US has provided ITIN to undocumented immigrants. It is so clear the position of the government and investors of the US. If they want to get rid of the illegal emigration, they have to stop exporting corruption to “third world countries”, stop intervening in third world countries governments, stop spreading military men around the world. However, I don’t think that the US government will do it. The US will lose its empire and the European Union will take place. In addition, the US is a consumer country, which depends on other countries natural resources. Latin American countries as well as other countries of other continents are not poor. People are poor because of the corruption of those governments, extension governments of the US. These countries are rich in natural resources as well as human capital/labor force that the US needs to survive. In addition to that, the US could increase the number of visas that issue every year to those who are waiting to come legally and at the same time could provide more visas to the countries where the undocumented immigrants come from to benefit the poorest people, the ones who are more devastated by the exportation of corruption. Nevertheless, the United States does not do it to have more undocumented immigrants in this country to balance its economy. If there are undocumented immigrants who have been in this country for 10, 15 or 20 years, it means that the US really needs them. Why not legalize them? Regarding the language (English), the native American Indians who live in this country also have their own languages. They also appose to make English the official language for the consequences that this will implicate. In addition, in some countries of Latino America, English is the second language instead of the language of our ancestors. In El Salvador, many employers require Salvadorians to speak or write in English since there are many transnational and the issue of the globalization that is hitting the world. However, I do not hear people, especially extremists US citizens to criticize that. I did not mention all the contribution of undocumented immigrants either. I am sorry if I make you angry, but this is the reality that many people do not want to see. In case you get diarrhea, pepto-bismol is good for that kind of emergency
