I have had two spinal epidurals. The pain was from a fall on my back and I had to do something after four months of useless "therapy" I am normally a very athletic person, strong and of normal weight, a professional dancer most of my adult life.
My question is this: I do not like chemicals in my body. What are the immediate and lasting effedcts of the steroids themselves?

I had these also and they did nothing for me but make me crippled with worse pain than I started with for 2 days. After 2 days of hell, the pain from the injection was gone and but my original pain remained. I am not sure how long this stays in your body, but I will look.

Update: From what I could find they stay in your body 1-3 weeks. Here is a very good website for you to read with lots more information...

1. The anesthesia injection you get prior to the epidural really hurts. 2. There is a very slight risk of infection. 3. I got itchy all over after the epidural was removed and the effects were wearing off. 4. My back was also very sore where they put the needle in. That lasted several days.
