The reason I ask is because there has been so much LA bashing on this site and the Internet in general. Surely people must have something good to say about the nation's second largest metropolis.

Good question! It's sunny over 300 days a year. It's very diverse - you can go from one neighborhood/area to the next and find a completely different vibe (and you could probably go your whole life and not see all of them).

I love that on my average drive to work (in a "typical" neighborhood), I might see a movie being filmed, someone in costume (I saw someone dressed like a pirate waiting for the bus the other day), a recording studio, a costume shop... some of the most talented and creative people in the world are here.

You never know who you're going to see or meet in the grocery store. If you go out to a bar, you aren't just going to meet accountants, lawyers, or engineers (people out here have some really unusual jobs). Life is always interesting if your eyes are open, and everyone has a story. I love the fact that I know people who are 50 who are just as cool as people in their 20s.

LA is just one of those cities people love to hate. I'm from Northern CA and people there grow up with this I Hate LA mentality. I know my parents always said they hate LA and of course people in NorCal say it b/c they think NorCal is somehow so much better than SoCal, which it's not they are both equally great and crappy in their own ways.

LA is such a huge, diverse city and there is so much to do and see there. It has amazing scenery with all the beaches, the mountains, valleys, canyons, ect... Looking at the Downtown LA skyline then seeing snow capped mountains rising 8,000-10,000 feet above the city in the background while you're sitting in sunny 75 degree weather, not many places have such geographic variety in such a short distance. The mountains and ski resorts a pretty close, even though they aren't as good as Lake Tahoe Ski Resorts, but the fact that you even have the option of skiiing within an hour or two of living by warm beaches is pretty unique. You can live in a secluded canyon and feel like you're in the country then be in the middle of Hollywood less than 3 miles from your home. Not to mention the women there are beautiful, I know that sounds superficial and shallow but it's true. And the people aren't that bad either. Yes there is the stuck up, fake Hollywood types but there are also 10 million other people that are nice and down to earth.

LA isn't the best city by any means and there are plenty of things wrong with it, but it's not that bad and just gets a bad repuatation. It's a city that is easy to hate on and a city people love to hate. Most people that say they hate LA have never even spent that much time in it and really don't know it well. It ain't an easy city to live in and you kind of need thick skin to make it, but it's a great city nonetheless.

Every city receives bashing because people have different opinions. As said many times before, every city has pros and cons. Definitely, one of the best attributes Los Angeles has is its weather.

Well we like it and Los Angeles County is the fastest growing county in the United States, so what people say and what people do are two different things.....

i think everyone would agree, if it weren't for the weather, no one would live here.

i'll add the beaches and the mountains to that list.

as for pluses about LA, i guess you could say the job market is strong. there's lots to do here. food's cheap. considering there are only 9,000 cops for a city of 4 million, crime is surprisingly low.

Plenty to do but not quite the place to live. Traffic will be the first problem.
