I don't want to declaw. If anyone has dealt with this issue and solved it then I would like to hear from them. I don't have air conditioning and need fresh air from doors and windows. Serious answers only. please.

They do make special grates to put on screen doors that attach right on the frames. I found mine at the Home Depot!

I have the same problem! We bought a type of screen that's supposed to be more resistant to claws from Menard's. It was a bit expensive, but worth it. My husband replaced all the screens in the house, I don't know if this is an option for you, but it isn't hard to do.

I still can't get the cat to stop hanging off the screen, but at least it holds together better than what it used to!

Don't declaw, no reason to. If it's from scratching, perhaps get her a few scratching pads, and use a water spray to discourage her scratching anything else.
Our cat was 10 months when we got her and she'd never seen a scratching pad before. We sprayed catnip all over the thing, and every time she started scratching anywhere else, we just said "No", picked her up and put her on her scratching pad or gave her a fast squirt, she soon got the hang of it, she never scratches anything else now.

Thank you for not declawing.

You can get gel caps put over your kittys nails, that don't bother your cat and will make sure that he can't destroy anything. Your vet will help you with this.

Other then that you can try spraying them (the screens not the cat) with bitter apple spray as cats hate it or try spraying the cat with water when you catch it.

If you are in the states (not sure if they are out of states also) but you can go to a store like petsmart or petco and buy a cat repellent... I smells for about 5 mins but will last about a month with your cat and it will keep your cat away from the screens

It might sound strange, but aluminum foil or doublesided sticky tape on the window sill will work. The cats hate the feel of it on their paws, and will stay off, so no scratching.

they have a stretchable screening that looks like normal screening but gives when it is pushed on. Many time you see a dog jumping on it. I would think something like that may work.

This may be a no-win situation. My cats did this when they were younger, but as they got older they have stopped. You could use a squirt bottle when you see your cat doing this. If she/he is doing it from the inside they may just want to go out..but if you let them out please supervise them while outside. Mine did it inside and out, but as I said they evidently "outgrew" this. Hope someone can help you. Good Luck

This is one type of cap you can get for a cat's nails. I have looked and I know that on ebay you may be able to get them a little cheaper.....
