Your question cuts to the heart of the fallacy of popular "Christianity." But this idea of going to heaven after death is not biblical; it does not come from God. It is a man-made myth. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that anyone (except Christ) will go to heaven.
And as for what the resurrected saints will do in their spiritual life -- it starts by ruling with Christ over the earth. That rulership includes judging, both men and angels. That's a big job; certainly not boring, lazy or selfish. It will be a big job to better all the rest of humanity.
And after that, there is an even bigger job in store for us. The whole universe is waiting to be renewed and made habitable.

In case you want Scriptures to support these statements, but are offended by including them in my answer, I've placed them below. So you can skip them if you want. {Some people are offended when Scripture is quoted; and now I've found some offended when it isn't quoted.}
John 3:13 -- No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.
Revelation 20:6 -- Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.
Revelation 5:10 -- And have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the earth."
Luke 19:11-27 {the parable of the talents -- one verse excerpted}
17 And he said to him, 'Well done, good servant; because you were faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities.'
1 Corinthians 6:2 -- Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
1 Corinthians 6:3 -- Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more, things that pertain to this life?
Romans 8:19-22 -- For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.

Good question. But are you speaking of Heaven or of what humanity wishes Heaven to be? Is dogma truth? You should read further on "The Ethics of Religion".

Heaven is the Self enjoying the freedom of the mind.
When the thoughts of the mind are withdrawn into the Self, the individual becomes free of corruption and is thoroughly liberated.
Once liberated, there is no longer a thought of other, for there is only one. Seeing and seen are the same, subject and object are the same. There is no seeing, for who would see whom? There is no thinking, for whom would think of whom? There is no helping, for who would help whom?
The joy of the atman ever abides.

Going to heaven is one of the bigger lies that christendom has foisted on mankind.
Its a lie.
Psalm 37:29 tells the truth about where we will eventually end up.

You don't have to go, you know. You can go to hell and set around the fire, every day fore eternity, if that's what you want.
