I thought about it, but I couldn't figure out how to do it so that it wouldn't actually make things harder for other people.

I did go through a period of disillusionment with audible communication in my twenties, and I said the bare minimum required to get by with people. I really thought about how much communication is about making myself look good or feel better. I avoided that pretty well.

Jim and I went to a marriage seminar a few years ago where the instructor asked us to go 24 hours without complaining. That's a good fast. I almost made it. On the way to the seminar the next night, a man almost ran us off the road, and I said, "Don't mind us, we were just driving here." Jim said that was negative. It was a little sarcastic, but that was my only offense in 24 hours. It was interesting to see how many times I caught myself _almost_ saying something negative, and really unnecessary.

Yes! Kind of. One day when grocery shopping, I decided to talk with a Slavic accent. It was so fun! Er, my husband was along so I wasn't just talking to myself.

Anyway, because it was so much fun, and due to a conversation I had with a co-worker, I decided that the next time we went one of us would be a tongueless person and would have to communicate in grunts and gestures.

We never got around to it for one reason or another, but maybe this weekend.

Other than that, I'm often silent. Which is why I think I'm a good "transmitter." I know many people out here don't believe in psychic phenomena, but on at least two occasions I've had people literally read my mind. Because I'm so nonverbal, I think my thoughts have more weight in that sense.

Oh, I do babble on, don't I? Or should I say Babylon?

Hubby has helped me create a room of worship or my 'Church' in the spare bedroom. It's a cheerful but quiet retreat. No sounds, only communications in the Holy Spirit. On rare occasions I stay there for days, (til hubby gets tired of sandwiches and runs outta clean skivvies.) I am blessed to have a man who respects my calling, even when he can't quite understand it.

I would encourage everyone to create a special place for communications in the Holy Spirit. In warmer weather a nice quiet area in the garden is a joy to the spirit. You might need to add some pleasant 'white noise' if you are not in a rural area. We just moved into this home last year and I am so excited for spring; creating a brand new garden!!! I pray the Holy Spirit grants me the time to work on this desire of my heart.

PS: I welcome everyone I love in the Holy Spirit to join me in my special place as they may desire. Even my grandson joins me for brief visits, he can't stay quiet for too long lol. Lovely question, thank you. May your silent journeys in the Holy Spirit be revealed in Blessings from our Father :)

Not voluntarily. I had laryngitis so badly once that I couldn't talk for five days to allow my throat to heal. That was prior to my having an online addiction so that was five days of absolutely no discussion of any kind. Was HARD!

Like a vow of silence? Yes, I've considered it many times.

When I was taking sign language at SJCC I spent an entire day not talking.
It was frustrating, but I am very patient and expressive.

Does it count if you use sign but no one understands you?

I would love to but being a husband and a father makes it impossible. My job might complain as well. Maybe one day.

I can think of a few people that should've given that up for Lent.

My record is 7 minutes, 23 seconds. And I'm never gonna try it again. It was hell. Pure hell.
