Walter...there are two kinds of choking episodes :
(1). Choking
(2). Not Choking
Your airway, the "tube" through which you breathe ("windpipe") is actually quite small. It is either blocked by a foreign object or so severely comprimised that YOU WOULD KNOW!! If you actually had an airway obstruction,
you would either not be talking, have stopped breathing, died, or be wheezing and gasping so badly that one of the above is soon to occur. Sometimes, after a choking episode, people perceive that "something is still stuck in there". Sometimes this is due to an irritation from the choking episode. It is possible to have a partially obstructed trachea and to have "inhaled foreign material" into the lungs, however again I believe you would be in severe distress. If you remain concerned, see your MD...call 911 if actually choking. NEVER DO THE HEIMLICH MANUVEUR ON AN ADULT VICTIM WHO CAN STILL SPEAK! Let them attempt to clear their own airway "before you go hittin' and sqeezin' on them, lest you cause the problem you were trying to solve.

Small sips of water (if it will go down) and give it a bit of time (couple of hours).
I've heard that a small amount of meat tenderizer mixed with water helps disolve the blockage, but I've also had a buddy that tried that, had to go to the er the next morning to have the meat removed by endoscopy, and the tenderizer caused some damage to the esophageal wall.

Providing that you're choking/joking have the nearest person to you perform the Heimlich maneuver immediately, if not gargle with Listerine, and if that fails stick a finger down your throat in order to induce vomiting... Good Luck!

Heimlich maneuver or induce vomit. If your afraid to do it go to your doctor or Local ER/Clinic. Going to a Doctor/Clinic/ER is pretty over the top where I see you can breath but if you can't get it out yourself that may be the only way.

Was it bread. Sometimes that will stick to your throat. As long as you breath ok it should losen up soon. Try eating something else to push it down.
