As a Vodoun practitioner, I think they trivialize our faith. I wouldn't want to have kids approach spellcraft like it's a fun thing--I'd want them to have the spiritual discipline behind it, which most kids getting these at Hot Topic will not. I hope they just get discarded quickly when kids are bored with them.

Chloe, I think intent does count, which is why I try to control my own thoughts and do an instant "take that back!" when I have harmful ones. That's what I mean about discipline. Of course, he could also have been a creep who had it coming...

From one point of view I think they are cute. Then I looked at the "accessories" that came with each doll. WTF! Do they have any clue what they are turning into a toy? I very much agree with you. These are not toys and should not be dealt with lightly. These are worse than the voodoo doll kits you can sometimes find in the occult section. Those at least have books to go along with them.

We can just hope this will be a short lived fad.

Voodooz Dolls

I had a Betsy Wetsy and Tiny Tears, and I loved my Little Miss Revlon doll. I also remember playing with Betsy McCall paper dolls from the magazine. I had a big walking doll that had a 45 record inside that made it seem to talk, but I don't remember the name. My daughter is going to have a little girl in August, so I bought my 3 year old grandson a baby doll for "practice". I hope he loves his baby sister as much as he loves that doll. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

You practice Voudu? Mind if I pick your brains a bit. For a novel I'm working on (one of the characters lives next to a Voudun priestess, and I'd like to bring her more to the forefront for a few story lines).

Can you do that without a doll?

Because I once hated someone with a passion and wanted to hurt him and he became violently ill with a mysterious illness which still plagues him today.

That's a form of witchcraft: it came from the Devil himself. Please take that website off before so many people get demon possessed.
