The reason I ask is because a Mexican co-worker of mine recently had a nervous breakdown because of family stress. I have also seen and read quite a few documentaries lately on the stresses that Latinas have trying to balance things in their life.

Although the men dominate a Latin household, it's the woman who are the pillars that keeps their home upright. It's a huge task for Latin woman to continue that role here int he USA where the culture and way of life is so much very different than in Latin America. Once migrated here, it's extremely stressful trying to adapt and keep those engraved cultural traits in a country like the USA....

Every culture has self esteem problems. Caucasians just seem to hide it better. Female low self esteem symptoms: promiscuity, depression, unpredictable behavior, acting out, violent mood swings, desperation, suicide attempts. Everything I've read says promiscuity is usually the number one symptom of low self esteem in women.
Isn't it interesting that the activity that is supposed to bring women the most "freedom" - unattached sex - is the number one sign of low self esteem?
Want to improve your self-esteem? Practice a little self control and set some goals you can accomplish without outside help or hindrance. Little ones to start with. Like 25 sit ups after getting up every morning for a month. Or making a single batch of cookies a month to give away. Or spend one hour a week reading a good book. Take an on-line class. Learn to knit, sew, tat or quilt. Create something beautiful. Make sock or paper bag puppets for neighborhood kids. Plant a tree or a flower. Wash an elderly neighbor's windows.
Pick a goal and accomplish it. Then pick another. If you start to respect yourself, you'll be surprised how quickly your self esteem improves.
