Just how deadly is the 22 magnum revolver?

I seen the bullets on them things there tiny... and the when you let off it sounds like a firecracker...lol

It depends what you mean. It's much deadlier than a broom. You can kill a human with it. It's deadlier than a knife. Compared to other guns, it's on the low end though. You'd get better accuracy with a 22 than a 9mm glock, but a whole lot less punch. The bullet is tiny. So in the world of guns and on a scale from 1(least deadly) to 10(instant death), a 22 magnum revolver would be around a 1.25. On the other hand, it's much more deadly than throwing confetti at someone.

A .22 caliber LR from a pistol is most likely the most deadly of all rounds * Period! The reason being is many are speaking of shot placement. This is NOT the case at all. For example,,, a .22LR round from a handgun can enter a person's thigh, bounce off bones, rattle through the shest cavity while destroying vital organs and come out where it wants... e.g. shoulder, neck, head etc. .22LR rounds rattle. and don't ever forget that...... They are by far the most dangerous round. Granted they don't have the weight nor the stopping power as the larger caliber rounds, but they can certainly do much more extensive damage and therefore have the ability to kill with a single shot.

I hear it will do good to empty your .22 mag load on your opponent's belly. Never had to try that, though. Had a chance to carry .22 Magnum in a very small revolver and did not feel naked just carrying it; ie, i still felt reasonably armed.

Aperson posting hear says he read a book telling the real tale of how a .22 was used to kill two medium sized elephants. The bullets hit an artery in the elephants. Another story is a person killed a large bear with a .22 by shooting in through the ear and into the bear's brain. You can kill a cow with a .22 by shooting it in the head.

As deadly as any other cartridge. It's just limited to closer ranges to be effective than say a .30 caliber rifle. It's all about shot placement. The .22 might have a small projectile, but imagine it going 1800 fps and ripping through your heart or lungs and stopping there, transfering all that energy into your vitals, turning them into jelly. Don't underestimate it.

it would seem after reading a number of URLs the question is for what purpose do you wish to have a gun? if your purpose is protection then the majority of what i read says that you should move up to a least a .38 for stopping power. a .22 magnum can kill someone, but it is more likely from them bleeding to death. another way might be if you got close enough for a head shot. check out the enclosed URL i sent for further opinions and not that it makes a great gun if you want something for varmint riddance. good luck!

Depending on barrel lengh it will be just about as powerful as a 22 long rifle fired out of a rifle, most of the powder in the magnum cartridge is wasted in a short barrel (under 12") handgun, which you can see in muzzle blast / flash.
