I've been told that in Baptist churches there is actually anti-Mormon literature given out. Is this true? If so, why does this happen?

Jeancommunicates - my church teaches to preach against false doctrine too. So who's right. Can't we all just get along? My God is a God of love, what is your God?

Bull, I have an actual pamphlet, from a Baptist person, that denounces the LDS faith. How do you explain that?

As and LDS member, I hear stories from missionaries who return from pretty much anywhere about anti-Mormon teachings. I wouldn't judge the baptists or any other religion for it, because there are so many churches out there, and each congregation is different. People aren't perfect. I will admit that even in the LDS church there are members who have misconceptions about other churches.

The other day I followed on of the links that someone posted on this page to some pages meant to be anti-Mormon, just to see what it was about. Their quotes were actual quotes, and I had heard most of them, but there were a lot of partial quotes or doctrines isolated from the context in which they were used. This confusion about what the LDS church teaches is, in my opinion, the source of anti-Mormon sentiments.

I am a Mormon and I visited a church in Tennessee that was a First Baptist and to say the least when I mentioned that I was of the Mormon faith I didn't get a very Christlike response.

I spoke with some of my family in TN and they are extremely ignorant towards Mormons but I have never seen any actual flyer's or anything. But I have heard sermons that bash Mormons on cd.

As a Mormon I have researched many churchs very carefully and when you hear a very world renound Baptist precher bash Mormons openly it seems pretty obvious which church has there priorities in order.

There are some Baptist churches that may have tracts of some sort put together. Most don't but believe that the LDS church is not a historical christian church and would hold that Smith and his successors are false prophets because the Bible says so.

The Reorganized Church of Latter day Saints (community of Christ) is monotheist however the Salt lake -based LDS Mormon Church isn't yet henotheist/polytheist. there are a number of gods for them who have been human beings on different planets and that they attained godhood. LDS Mormons worship Father,Son and Holy Ghost as 3 separate gods and the daddy ,to boot because of the fact the Son, has a cloth physique of their theolgical cosmology.

In some Baptist churches it does, unfortunately. Yes, there is even anti-Mormon literature handed out. My Mom is Methodist, and her church was right next door to a Baptist church. When I told her I was Mormon, she went to her preacher (which I can understand) then he went across the street to the Baptist church and got all this hateful anti-Mormon literature.
The reason it happens is out of ignorance and hate.

I have not seen any actual pamphlets, but I have heard of such things. I don't think it is necessarily all churches, but some do give out information that's sole purpose is to denounce the LDS church. I'm not sure why it happens, but it's really sad. Instead of promoting peace and the validity of their own church, they go bash someone else and cause disruption. But again, I don't think it is everyone, just some.

Why is that a suprise, most people think LDS are demons.
but to be fair about it, why don't they print some anti pamphlet about every church, I don't see all the other churches is teaching the same thing anyway, if they are teaching the same thing, then they should be one great big church, and not so many little churches all over.

Nothing new about this kind of thing. Haven't similar divisions occurred among other believers?

Maybe we need to accept the reality that there will always be different levels of faith/maturity.

As to the information that some other group is "wrong" shouldn't that information be handled privately without promoting hate? Shouldn't we keep in mind that the intended church has many locations and aspects over which we have no control?

Back in I think it was 1996, the Southern Baptist Convention had their big conference in Salt Lake City. They had two agendas; governing their church, and preaching to MORMONs. They put out a whole Sunday school program called "Solving the Mormon Puzzle". And now, they act like it never was.

Baptist don't preach against any other denomination. They preach the Word of God as it is written. They preach the way to salvation, and the people can make their own minds up as to which denomination is true to God. There maybe times when a preacher, throws someting in that is against another, but, a preacher is just a man like everybody else and he is subject to making derogatory mistakes, man is not perfect.
