If you have a cold, you do not have water in your ears. You have fluid from drainage from your sinuses behind your ears. You need to go to your pharmacy and ask them for something OTC to take for the drainage to dry you up a bit. It will take a few days, but will eventually get better.

My mom always told me to get a warm wash cloth and lay my ear on it and the water will come out

put a towel on your pillow and lay down with your ear on it. lay there a few minutes and it will start to roll out... might give you a tickle sensation in your ear but that will help.
