i had panic attacks almost daily, and my doctor put me on klonopin. it helped, but i developed a tolerance very quickly and had to take more and more. a huge pain to get off of. but, i needed it and it worked. you don't need to go to the hospital for them, try breathing into a paper bag for hyperventilation, and work on breathing deeply and slowly. it should pass, and it won't cost tons of money and time that the hospital does. it may seem like it will never get better, but at some point it will, and the drugs and doctors will be done with and you will have your life back, it took a few years for me, but other people got better sooner. good luck, and hang in there.

Anxiety attacks are indeed something very horrific to experience.
When I had one, I got light-headed, disoriented, my heart was hammering, and I couldn't get enough oxygen no matter how I tried. My hands and legs were numb, I couldn't talk, and my vision was blurry.
It felt like an eternity before it subsided, and WITHOUT a doctor's visit.
Now I know when one is coming on, and simply sit in a quiet area with my eyes closed. I generally tell myself that everything is fine, I can go home if I want, and that I am in control.
It takes practice, but if this is occuring quite regularly, shouldn't your loved one be on some kind of medication for anxiety?

They are horrible, you have racing thoughts, shortness of breath, start criing histerically and i shake or cringe when someone talks to me. It's like you are being controled by someone else and cant control your movements at all. It will pass though, just take deep breaths (if you can) and think of a positive place where you like to be. Xanax also helps :) I would definitly ask a psychiatrist about getting Xanax for him/her. Good luck, and stay strong! <3
