You'd think that it would use energy needed to fight cold or flu or whatever it is, but after a good workout I always feel much better.

Well its good for some people but not for others. Like me and my dad and sis feel much better after working out. But if my mom and bro try to work out while they're sick then they just get sicker.

The second and third answers have the right idea. Dopamine and endorphines are released after workouts which create not only a feeling of overall relief but also euphoria. Working out when one is not very sick but just a bit under the weather will kick your body into overdrive to flush out whatever ails you.

Exercise releases dopamine and endorphines, which helps with getting rid of colds by making you feel happier and relieved and will flush out of all the stuff that could be making you sick. But this is really only the case if it's not a bad sickness. If you're throwing up, exercise wouldn't be a very good idea.

Endorphins, baby! Of course, if you are REALLY sick, you won't feel better after a workout. The rule of thumb I tell my clients is that if they can't breathe, are throwing up, can't be away from a bathroom, or have a fever, stay home. Otherwise, give it a whirl- you can always stop and go home.
