I don't want to bathe her all the time, but I just got her, and it seems that she liked to roll in dirt!! lol.. her white is gray... Good points though about drying her skin out.. did not think of that one!

Yes, you can use shampoo to bath your cat.
BUT, don't use shampoo made for humans and frankly I'd steer clear of pet shampoos sold in stores also...UNLESS you call the Vet and he says that an OTC shampoo is safe.

If it were me I'd buy pet shampoo from a Vet or a licensed pet groomer.

Ok, in the show world (and yes I use it for the foster cats etc too), we use a drop of Dawn dishwashing liquid, seriously, it degreases the coat and we've been using it for years. You have to rinse it really well and I suggest just a warm damp face cloth around her eyes and nose, you don't want to get it into her eyes. You can then rub a tiny spot of olive oil into your hands and just pet the cat to condition it (not too much as it will leave the coat greasy) We follow the dishwashing liquid with other shampoos and things but it's not necessary.

If she's a shorthair, you can do a bran bath, this often makes the coat sparkle as it removes dirt and excess grease. To give a bran bath, 6 ozs plain bran (found in the health food section of the supermarket) should be warmed thoroughly in a moderate oven. The bran should then be rubbed with your fingers against the natural growth direction of the coat, left on for a few minutes, then gently brushed out with a slicker wire brush. White or light colored short-haired cats may benefit from a little talcum powder. It's perfectly safe!

Pet shampoo isn't very expensive, so I'd recommend that. You don't want to use anything that's very drying or she'll get skin problems. I suppose baby shampoo might be okay, too. Whatever you use, dilute it by half with water beforehand. That way it will be easier to rinse out. I bathe mine in the kitchen sink because the sprayer makes it easier to rinse and its easier on my back. Just disinfect the sink after.

They do make shampoos specifically for cats; I've seen them in pet stores like Petco. However I wouldn't buy just any one without consulting with the vet first. Also keep in mind that shampoos with frangrances in them may be too strong for their ultra-sensitive noses. But if your cat is an indoor cat, you probably don't need to bathe her at all since cats usually clean themselves. Only if they get into something really dirty would they need to be bathed.

Hi
I got a black lab only 6 weeks old. I took it for its first jag and the vet said to me, don’t buy all the dog shampoos, just use baby shampoo. If its ok for baby’s its ok for you pet. I still use it now and he is 1 and a half.
Personally i would not use our hair shampoo as it does have lots of chemicals and fragrances in it, which might irritate her.
Go for the baby shampoo and your wee cat will smell lovely. x

I use my shampoo to wash my pets, but I make sure it's made of natural stuff (like Garnier Fructis). If it's natural, it shouldn't hurt your cat. I would definitely make sure to keep it away from the cat's face though. Hope this helps!

No, human shampoo is too harsh for animals, even dogs. The PH is different, and you must use a formula on cats that is made for cats, and the same thing for dogs.

You could use a mild baby shampoo but I would stay away from any that we would use they would be too strong. Cats usually keep themselves pretty clean so you don't need to use anything strong.

yes but use like a baby shampoo so it doesn;t dry out her skin...don;t bath often as cats hate water and her whole body would get really itchy and she would suffer for it,,,,,,,LOL

Look on the bottle. It could say 'tested on animals'. If it is, then I suspect yes. Contact for vet for possitive advice!

But, cats have their own shampoo so I think it would be wise to use their own brand of shampoo.
