lorazepam is an anti-convulsant, anxiolytic, hypnotic, sedative, that is generally prescribed to treat sleeping disorders such as insomnia. i highly doubt it is given before surgery to relax you but ask a doctor. and Rocky is wrong---ativan is the brand name lorazepam is the generic. xanax is a brand for the generic alprazolam.

Lorazepam is the generic term of Xanax. They won't give you that before surgery. Usually to calm you it will be IV Valium.

That stuff is BAD NEWS. My boyfriend had been diagnosed with cancer-(he's all clear now). And they prescribed that to him for anxiety and for the ringing in his ears due to chemo. It is HIGHLY addictive and it can make you literally psychotic if not used right, and it's hard to get off of.
