Actually not all demonic possessions are that terrifying. I have a colleague at work who sometimes get possessed by spirits and we just let her be. It's true. I saw her once get possessed, but it's not like the stereotypical turning-of-the-head & vomitting scenario that we saw in "Exorcist." No such supernatural thing happened, just a simple "possession" where she was doing a certain dance (like what you see on old Chinese costume plays.) She thinks that it's a beneficial spirit (because she's a Taoist, and it's these Taoist dieties that are entering her body,) but I know what it really is.
And yet, even with her condition, I still respect her. She is, after all, sober most of the time. Preaching to her my beliefs won't do any good, since she REALLY BELIEVES that her religion is right, and that she was somehow chosen to be a medium.
So to answer your question, "What would Satan's motivation be?" I would say, to further the deception. Here in this place where I live, many people buy that sort of thing.

The biblical possession shown in the movies is just that - a movie. The way I would see some form of demonic possession (especially from someone who has the unfortunate nickname of "The Prince of Lies") would be in order to gradually corrupt a society or group of people by gradually introducing things into the society that go slightly against the flow and then gradually lead it more and more into depravity until there would be no place for the soul to go but to Hell. Naturally the best way to do this would be to posess anyone that could be put into a leadership role and then use their granted powers to influence the right people to get themselves into power. Demonic Possession would be subtle and it would damn EVERYONe involved - and the worst part is no one would realise it.

It is true that their are evil spirits present in the world; not that there is one behind every bush, mind you. Just as the Holy Spirit touches us, warms us, comforts us, Satans spirit can touch us, too. If you allow it.
If you read luke 10, you will see that Christ gave us power over all spirits of any kind, including Lucifer. In the name of Jesus Christ, order them out of your home, and away from your family and friends. They run like hell.
But keep in mind, too, that Satan doesn't need to be bothered with those who he already has - he's interested in bothering those who would do the service of Christ.
Thats why very often you will see a Christian who is ill alot, or seems to have alot of conflicts and problems in their life;
You need to recognize it for what it is, and order it out. Remember that even though we may not know exactly what service or destiny Christ has is in store for us, Satan sure does, and he will try any method available to him to thwart you. He is very real, but cannot do anything at all to a Christian, unless they allow it. Don't allow it.

Anneliese Michel grew to become right into a mentally unwell lady who had the misfortune to be under the care of ignorant, superstitious people who concept she needed exorcism fairly than psychiatric care. Exorcism is effective while the supposedly possessed guy or woman believes and is going alongside with the charade. while he or she isn't, exorcism has a tendency to coach deadly as better and bigger efforts are made to stress the "demon" out with the help of thrashing or smothering the sufferer.

Generally it's organic illnesses that are mistaken for possession by uninformed, uneducated, ignorant and suspicious people. Mental illness, epilepsy, autism, ect. --all have been mistaken for possession at one time or another. And the person is harmed or even murdered by the people trying to drive the demon out. I'm not a Catholic, but as I understand it, the mainstream Catholic church no longer performs the rite of exorcism.

I've been trying to find a way to get posessed by the demon, or group of demons, called 'Legion' in the New Testament, that Jesus supposedly cast out into a herd of swine.
I've even got some Christians praying for this to happen because they reluctantly have to admit... it WOULD save me from atheism, and being a Believer would mean deliverance would be possible for me.

Satan is created by people too. They can not explain that how a god who only create good things can allow evil things to happen or exist. They do not know that by creating a Satan, their god is no longer all powerful nor all benevolent.

If you read very closely , Genesis. You will find that there are already others on earth while Adam and Eve are created to start not the human race, but a different race of beings than are already here.
The people that are already here are refferred to as the " Sons of God"
They are attracted to humans and want to mate and mingle with them.
Below shows that there is not one God, but a group of already here, God people.
Genisis1;26,
And God said, Let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness. Not in the singular, why?
...........................................................
Gen. 6;1
It mentions that when men began to multiply and daughters were born to them, that the SONS OF GOD saw the daughters of men that they were fair and they took them as wives/
Gen 6;4
There were Giants in the earth.....
So now we have written in the Bible, in Genesis that there are man created by God in The gods images.
There are beings called sons of god, who are not humans but are already there on earth.
There are giants that are also already there.
It is obvious if you take the word to be true, that man was created but there were already other beings here on earth.
I believe that many of the sons of god are what we see as posessions today as they are still attracted to the human form and spirit.

Demonic possession is one thing and one thing only, severe mental illness, true madness. Funny how after thousands of years not once has such a thing been scientifically examined, and how many people have been brutalized by those trying to perform an "exorcism" Can you imagine how horrible it must be to be in the throes of mental illness that severe only to have those around you attack you?

There is no good in Satan. He is void of any good, and is the father of lies. He has one will toward man. It is one of hostility and destruction. He will offer you the selfish desires of your heart for a feeling of glory, but since he only wants to destroy man, when he and his cronies are done using you to bring more hell on earth, they will consume you.
People invite these things into their lives because of the high they get. But it's a deception and too often a no win situation with a bad end.
