It looks a very attractive place in pictures I have seen and those old town walls most impressive. Would anybody recommend the town as a good place to visit? Are there some good pubs there?

It's very nice. It's in Northumbria national walk and has beautiful countryside, a 12th century castle, a puffin reserve on Holy Island which you can walk or drive out to when the tide is out. It is very close to Scotland and the city of Newcastle.

Berwick upon Tweed also has an interesting history. Berwick had changed hands several times, it was traditionally regarded as a special, separate entity, and some proclamations referred to "England, Scotland and the town of Berwick-upon-Tweed". One such was the declaration of the Crimean War against Russia in 1853, which Queen Victoria supposedly signed as "Victoria, Queen of Great Britain, Ireland, Berwick-upon-Tweed and all British Dominions". However, when the Treaty of Paris (1856) was signed to conclude the war, "Berwick-upon-Tweed" was left out. This meant that, supposedly, one of Britain's smallest towns was officially at war with one of the world's mightiest powers– and the conflict extended by the lack of a peace treaty for over a century.

Furthermore, Berwick upon Tweed is the only English town to play football (soccer) in the Scottish league.

My parents used to take me to the holiday camp that Mermaid worked at (probably)! We went every year. I was never one for night-life, so I can't say much. If you have kids then the holiday centre is a good choice. I love the walks around the cliff tops and the town walls.

If you go by car, you can see more. It's worth taking in some other nearby places too. Like Holy Island, Bamburgh, Eyemouth, St Abbs Head, etc..

I like to spend time pottering around the rock pools looking for stuff. The Berwickshire / Northumbrian Coast is great for wildlife. I was there the other day and we saw some great stuff.

Hope you go, it's worth a visit.

I used to work at a caravan site there. It is popular during the holiday season. Yes the Walls are impressive. Plenty of seagulls and coastal air. The pubs are nice, but nothing out of the ordinary. Berwick is good for families and older people.
