Why do young men or boys wear their pants so low that their underwear shows ? Is that a fashion?

Its based on the jailhouse look... they take your belt in jail, so your pants fall down.

Yes in fact it is a fashion. That is all most young black males do... and to make it so bad they throw a xxxxxxtra large with it. This seems to betheir sense of style. For them wearing pant above their waist is nerdy and it aint cool to. They look up to artists, older brothers, cousins, and believe it or not daddies. But it isnt their fault...if only they knew what it meant beacaue they dont care where it came from....because most of them are likely headed over there. So u cant really stop them from wearin their pants so low....just buy them a belt!!!!!!!!

Young boys don't know that fashion started in prison. The gay inmates wear their pants down to show that they take it in the fudge hole.
Kids thought it was cool but didn't know what it meant.

it's part of an urban look basically taken from jail houses just like someone already mentioned. it's a fashion the hip hop culture has taken and that along with many other fashions that come from that culture such as tattoos are very popular. so get used to it

because they think it is cool and they follow others instead of standing on their own to feet. This whole thing of wearing them like that is the stupidest things Ive ever seen and nothing even close to "cool". Men are egomaniacs and attention is attention even if its negative attention. I think this "fad" needs to end. Nothing less attractive than a guy having to hold his pants up to walk.

yes its fashon. in the city it can meen territory or gang relations. i wear them low but i have a long shirt to cover my underwear.lol. its a fashion. like why did woman a long time ago have such fluffy dresses. its just a fashon and some people think its cool others dont.

whether it shows or doest show .. it shudnt make a difference to one...
what one wears is their attitude usually .. atleast at this age... ok.. if one wants to follwo the herd.. So be it.." HErd Mentality os their attitude.."
Some people may feel this looks awesome..... let me also try that !...
So please dont mix personal emotion into a generic thing like Fashion which is based on a public appeal more to individual interests these days

saggin is what its called but they should know in jail that means to an inmate ur available and it also lets u know they are not hip to the fact that some women like a mans backside in a pair of jeans the pockets are just big enuff for our smaller hands

I have no idea. It looks sloppy and unprofessional (at a workplace) even for construction and plumber type jobs. I dont think I would let one of them into my house. It stared off as fasion and it has gone way too far now.
