I have to agree with Hazel however I can tell you what my doc suggested I do to help it along with some medicated lotion!
He said to let my hands soak in warm water for 20 minutes allowing the pores to open. Then apply the lotion. It helped a lot for me to do this. It relieved the pain from the dryness.
Good luck

What you have described sounds like keratoderma. This could be a disease by itself or part of eczema or psoriasis. Mositurizers containing urea may help. AmLactin is a cream available over the counter that has lactic acid 12% which may also provide some releif. If what he has is psoriasis, there are new treatments that are topical, oral or by injections which a dermatologist can prescribe, which can control this disease. (tachlanex, soriatane, raptiva, enbrel just to name a few). You should get him to go see a dermatologist about this condition.
Good Luck!

Well I tend to get eczema on my hands and what helped me was a cream called, Diprolene and was prescribed by my dr. I also was using a hand/body moisturizer called, Curel (original formula as the unscented one doesn't have great 'fragrance' :) which can be found right at the drug store or Target. Curel is very emollient and tends to not burn the skin as other creams do. Hoping that your wife gets some relief soon!

There is not a absolute cure. There are several medications that control the seriousness of excema and her doctor would know best. Too much sun and too much cold can worsen the condition. The other primary item that worsens it and can bring it on initially, is STRESS.

I feel for her. I had the exact same thing, in the exact same area growing up. At least with your feet you can wear socks, and no one sees. But the hands, they're difficult to hide, and explain. However, when I became a teen and visited a different doctor he prescribed something different, and it worked great. Triamcinolone Ointment. I believe it's a steroid in an ointment. It worked awesome for me, and I hope it does for your wife too.
