Don't get modesty confused with humility. They are very similar. Humility is the opposite of pride. Modesty is the opposite of excess.

For example, being modest in your clothing, you should not show too much skin. I don't mean like old school Pentacostal modesty, I mean don't dress provocatively in a manner that you know will be noticed by attracted men. This is more a rule of thumb for women than men (other than a speedo) because men don't have much of a way to dress provacatively.

Another example would be with money. If you have a lot of money, don't go around spending a lot in front of friends to impress people.

Basically modesty means that you should not go out of your way to get the attention, approval, or evny of anyone. Don't live your life trying to get a compliment. That is where humility comes in. You can be modest by being humble. Don't become prideful. I believe pride is the worst sin of all. This is the sin that overtakes everyone.

I personally believe being modest means giving "special coverage to certain areas." I get my clothes from www.thekingsdaughters.com and my swimsuits from www.modest-swimwear.net. Modesty means respecting yourself so you can get respect back. I'm not saying that if you're not modest you don't respect yourself, I'm just saying that people can SEE you respect yourself they're more likely to do the same.

It means understanding that one is not better or more important than the the next person, realizing that GD put us here where He wanted and made us the way He planned, and not to do things that draw attention to oneself.Dress in a way that looks decent and not outlandish or draw attention to one's body,to talk quietly and not gossip, etc.
It means not showing off, even if you have special talents, and not putting other people down. Being considerate of other 's feelings, and always remember that GD made the next person, too.
