Don't use sunscreen on a new tattoo! Some of those chemicals will pull the color right out of the skin. If you have to worry about sun exposure then cover it with a bandage. And make sure to keep it moist until it is completely healed so it doesn't scab over. Use neosporin or bacitracin, very light coating three times a day, more if it gets dry. Once it's healed completely then you can use the sunscreen of your choice- at least 15 spf- every day. Good luck!

there are certain sunscreens that work better than others. Look for sunscreen that has vitamin A or D in it (both if possible). These are the 2 most essential nutrients that help in the tattoo healing process. SPF really doesn't matter. The sun will cause some weird affects if you get burned pretty bad. I got a very bad sunburn a few days after getting my first on done and it caused it to fade. On my fourth one, I used sunscreen with vitamins A and D in it, and the tattoo turned out perfect.

I wouldn't put sunscreen on it, simply because it's not lotion meant to moisturize and has more chemicals in it, especially if you are expecting to be in the sun most of the day.
I know when I got a tattoo last summer, I tried as hard as I could to keep it out of the sun. I have a pool in my back yard, and it was hard! But I stayed in the shade, still keeping it as moist as possible. So my recommendation to you is to keep lotioning it up, and keep it in the shade.
I don't think I would put a bandage or anything over it; I've never covered any of my tattoos up (except with regular clothing) while they were healing, except for the gauze that was put on by the artist. The reason I wouldn't is because I'd be afraid of it sticking to the work, just as was previously said about the scabs pulling the ink out when you take it off. But this is just my personal preference. :)

Yeah You can put sunscreen on it if you are going to be exposing it to sun, I also have a tattoo on my foot I used an SPF 30 with aloe moisturizers in it, to help keep it very moist, which is key to not losing color and keeping it from scabbing. After you are out of the sun make sure you put a thick coating of A and D ointment on it to replenish any moisture it may have lost and help it heal a little quicker. After the tattoo is completely healed just make sure you keep it moisturized to keep the color from fading, I have had mine on my foot for 2 years and from doing the above things it is still as bright as the day I got it. Hope that helps!!

I wish this can be a troll query, considering that if it is not, you're fairly NOT the man or woman to be having youngsters allow by myself parenting them, judging through this query. When I used to be 6, the concept of a tattoo on no account crossed my brain, nonetheless I did appreciate the cosmetic of them each time I noticed them on any person. When I first learned approximately the agony of a tattoo, that fairly scared me, to the factor wherein each time I noticed any person with one, I concept they have been a difficult wide (this used to be while I used to be a youngster). Even as a 6 yr historical, I knew they have been a everlasting resolution, even though I learned approximately laser removing later down the avenue (and humans say that hurts FAR worse than a tattoo). The child goes to difference her brain, have new curiosity as she a long time (she would possibly like ponies however possibilities are, it's going to be whatever else in a while), and remorse has no age prohibit. Remember that, plus are you able to assume a 6 yr historical getting a tattoo?! Kids mostly hate pictures while they are on the health care professional's workplace, assume four-five needles jamming ink into your youngster's epidermis, three,000 instances a minute! Besides, I am presently getting a tattoo on my wrist subsequent month for my 18th birthday and I desired it given that I used to be 14. My mom promised me she is going to on no account signal for me to get a tattoo and if I did, I might be historical adequate to signal for it on my possess phrases. What are you aware?! I'm signing for it subsequent month, my mother definite wasn't gambling round!

Stay out of the sun for 2 weeks!
use only Bacitracin Ointment, A&D Ointment, or a FRAGRANCE FREE moisturizer!
The chemicals in sunscreen could cause an adverse reaction.
Your best bet is to follow your artist's advice on after care. If you have questions, call him/her, I'm sure they'll be happy to advise.

The important thing is to keep it moisturized. Sunscreen is okay, but stay on top of keeping lotion on it.
The reason for this is that when the scab heals, you want the inks to stay put, not be pulled out with a dried up scab.
Moisture, moisture, moisture!

You should have received instructions
from the artist that did your work.
If you want your tattoo to last, use the
moisturizer they advised and stay
out of the sun and chlorine water.

there is no reason to put sunscreen on it ever. it will not protect your ink from the harmful UV rays. they will break down your ink unless you keep your tattoo out of the sun completely.
