Uh, yeah. Working at a shop ROCKS!!! I miss mine.
Anywho, as a receptionist, you get to take down appointments, greeting customers, give them your opinion on art, and at my shop, we got to set up and break down the artists, and do all of the crap work like running the autoclave and scrubbing tubes.

I'm a receptionist at a tattoo parlor. I think the job descriptions will vary. I myself greet customers talk to them about what kind of tattoos their looking for, i offer to show tattoo pics and pic of each artist that way they can decide who they want to do the tat. I also get supplies for the artist if they need more. It's fun and I enjoy seeing how different ppl r and how some of the meanest looking ppl can be the nicest. i love it!

The local shop I go to has two-three people who do this. One is a guy in a local band, and between that & the job he's busy. Staircase is a popular place here, so the job is one to keep you on your toes.
The only downside is the playing nice to people who aren't. Not everyone walking into the shop is going to be as cool as the regulars here.
But hey, that's only part of it. The rest sounds good. The times you're talking about are likely popular, so you won't get bored. Depending on the clientèle and my own experiences being in a shop at that time, you tend to find a whole lot of customers who are newbies with simple questions.

that would be SO much fun!! i always told my artist whenever he opens his shop i want to work for him. i would even work for tattoos. gaah that would be awesome!! different shops have different jobs for their receptionists. most that i know just answer the phones and help to book appointments, greet customers and take money. but others get trained in piercing as well so they can do something else as well. it just depends on the shop. do you have visible tattoos? i can't remember. but my artist told me that he would make me get atleast a half sleeve to work for him.
