Thank you so much I hadn't heard this yet. It's disturbing that we just don't know what were feeding our pets. Fortunately my cats have not shown any signs of kidney failure but so many people lost thier companions from this and the company doesn't seem all that concerned.

Yes, from what I heard it was a pesticide that had been sprayed on the wheat.

How sad, my heart just breaks for anyone who lost a pet or who's pet is sick because of this.
I just thank God that I've never feed my cats any of the food that was recalled.

Rat poison!! Hooley Dooley. I can't believe it! Aminopterin.

Aminopterin is a folic acid antagonist used as an antineoplastic in the 50s and 60s. This agent is also used to produce abortion in women in the early 1950s and 17 cases of fetal malformation were reported after failed abortion with aminopterin administration between the 4th and 12th week of gestation. The fetuses presented with a strikingly similar pattern of anomalies including short stature, skull anomalies (delayed calvarial ossification, craniosynostosis, cloverleaf skull), hydrocephalus, abnormal auricles, ocular hypertelorism, micrognathia, and cleft palate. Some fetuses showed also istal limb anomalies and neural tube closure defects. Malformations have been observed among children of women who ingested aminopterin doses between 1 and 3 mg/d or higher doses during the first trimester of pregnancy. The risk of malformation associated with aminopterin exposure can be estimated at 50% from a number of case reports of normal pregnancies following failed of abortion with aminopterin treatment.
