In addition to English, I can speak my other native language of Spanish. I also speak a little Greek (I grew up in a predominantly Greek neighborhood in NYC), I speak enough French to be able to ask for a license & registration (I'm a NYC Highway Patrol Officer) and I'm currently teaching myself to speak the Mandarin dialect of Chinese via CD.

I also know some phrases in Tagalog (dialect of the Phillipines), some Japanese (I study Kempo Karate & studied Shotokan & Aikido), very little German and because Spanish & Italian are similar I can get away with speaking some Italian.

English (mother tongue), American English, French, German, all fluently.
Turkish, Spanish - I can get by.
Arabic, Russian and Italian- understand but can't converse.
Enough Cantonese to give an address to a taxi driver in Guandong or Hong Kong.
A smattering of Kurdish (Northern Iraq dialect)
Portuguese - I can read it, but the pronunciation defeats me.

Apart from fluent English, I speak fluent Italian (because I am Italian and lived in Rome for 20 years) and some Spanish (and that's because it's very similar to Italian and I have some Spanish friends)...

I'm bilingual in English and Italian. I also get by in Sicilian and Spanish.

There are some poor-spirited thumbs-downers on this site, aren't there? How on Earth can ANY answer to this question - unless it's irrelevant or insulting - be a bad answer? Unless you're xenophobic, immature or just plain jealous. Or giving your thumb some exercise for the other thing you do with it. Pathetic.
