it depends on what codec was used to encode the avi file. There are multiple codecs out there. You can download some called the "k++ codec pack" that has just about every codec you can think of, and it's free.

Regardless of players or file types, just go and install any of the codec packs from http;//ww.free-codecs.com You'll never have a problem again.

What Player are you using ?
AVI's can use different Codecs; Best to try this site and see if their codec pack can supply what is needed

Avi can be compressed with many different codecs

VLC media player is pretty good

My personal favourite is available from the following link www.videolan.org download and install it and you will find it plays just about every video or audio file. I have had it for six months and it's played everything I have thrown at it. Hope this helps.

umm Divx might be the best codec...u can also download GomPlayer...just search for it on Google or Yahoo

divx or xvid code maybe, easy to fine search for code what u need it would tell you in red in windows media
