The pefect and all powerfull all knowing god apologises when Johan asks Jeremiah to contact god over what the remenants of the Judean people should do. chapter 42
8 Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces which were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,
9 And said unto them, Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me to present your supplication before him;
10 If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up: for I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you.
11 Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the LORD: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.

Thats right the Lord repented the evil he did unto them. That sounds like sorry to me ... did God actualy apologize ??

So this all powerfull all seeing god admits that things have changed and sohe will change the course of his actions and stop the "evil" that he has inflicted upon them.
God admits he has done "Evil" and repents doing that "Evil"

So now the all powerfull all knowing God has regrets. He knows all of time and is pefect he shouldnt have to regret or repent or do evil.
This makes God total fiction.

Yes, it would seem that that omnipotent God of the Old Testament is not so omnipotent at all. He also apologized for the Great Flood.

In Judges 1:19 the Almighty God was powerless against an army because they had chariots made of iron.

There is also another verse in the OT (looking for citation) where God is rendered powerless when the Israelite's enemies sacrifice to their own god.

That is not the only time in scripture where God "repented" of an action. Repentence means to "turn from" an action. Because of their sins, God had been removing them from the land. When the people came to God with supplication (verse 9) asking forgiveness and promising to stop their sins, God then turned (repented) from that action. He said (verse 10) if they stayed in the land, He would not longer pluck them out.

So basically when the people turned and prayed, God heard them, and stopped punishing them for their sins.

That is a doctrine taught throughout the Bible.

I just finsihed a 2 week study on this. Catholic Bible study with NAB. When you look at the Torah in Hebrew, there are 4 places in the OT that God "repents". But he isn't repenting, He is "regetting". God regretted making man so He flooed the land to start over. He regretted anointing Saul as king over the people so He anointed David and took His Spirit out of Saul and put Him in David.

When you read this again, replace the word 'regret'. You will see it differently and the way it is meant to be translated.

Peace!

Yes, for "repent" you can substitute "relent" and for "evil" you can substitute "harm".

God is entitled to allow bad things (evil) to happen to us when we go against His will and turn away from the true path. This is designed to make us think again, repent, and come back into a right relationship with Him.

By the way (this is where I get all the thumbs down) He is just as able to use bin Laden for this as the King of Babylon.

Jeremiah 42: Was the full chapter read? I am not questioning your integrity, but at times I am sure all of us read a particuliar passage(S) and hit a stop because it was or is contradicting to our own way of thinking (hence God telling us "My thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways.")Anyway, Jer42:8-11 (use for examples to my explanation- Jer. 31:28, Hos11:8, Joel2:13, Ps 46:7,11 , Isa 43:5, Jer41:18, Rom 8:31) {Johanan and his associates took their own oath of obedience; Jeremiah merely elaborated on it. It was a tragic mistake to ask for God's guidance with no intention of following it. Be sure never to ask God for something if you know in your heart that you don't want it. It is better not to pray than to pray deceptively. God cannot be deceived.}

This was a both a promise and a warning for God already knew what they were going to do. See God loves us in such a capacity that we cannot even begin to comprehend it. That's why I referred you to Romans8:31 that passage shows of the love that God has for us who are faithful and obidient to him not saying we are better than anyone else or without sin. But the Bible also tells God can become angry, though he is slow to anger. Jealous, that's why the first commandment is, if I may put in laymen terms, You shall have no other Gods!
God was not repenting for evil in the way we as humans interpret evil, he was grieved. Because he loves us and had to, due to our own disobidience, bring about disaster on his own people.

I don't know if this analogy would be appropriate(so correct me anyone if I misuse this) but you have heard the phrase "Believe me this hurts me more than it hurts you." This taking place while our mom or dad were handing out that discipline of a whooping on our backsides to teach us not to disobey or not to do what we knew was wrong.

God has nothing to apologize for.

He his perfect in everyway, true righteousness, without fault, and no untruth is within him. But it was stated from the beginning that we were going to face all sorts of trials and tribulations this is of our own doing but we are to stand firm in our belief and not be swayed because there would be consequences and God doesn't play around. He has given us forwarning. How much more can you ask of anyone, especially our Creator.

I pray that you find some understanding from this and some of the other answers that were listed and may the grace of the Lord Jesus Crhist, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you.

No. The term is better rendered "relent" of their punishment. The punishment was to make them repent and they did-so when they repented and begged God's forgiveness-he withdrew their punishment.
"repent" actually means to change your mind.
You should get a more modern translation, or else use an older dictionary.

To repent means to "turn away from". When we repent of sin, we are to turn away from that sin. God is saying that He turned away from the evil that He was doing to them. He is not saying that He was sorry for it, because doing it brought them back into a relationship with God. He is simply saying that He is going to stop.

I think you have misunderstood it. Your talking 10 days later. And it is jeremiah, is referring to himself. The people, sent him to pray to God, for them. And it was the people, who repented, and they are asking God to forgive them ,for the evil, they did against the will of God.
Jeremiah,is saying he takes the blame for allowing the people, to Sin.
That is if i remember it right. Jeremiah, allowed the people ,to to disobey,God. And allowed them to do as they wanted. Because, they would not listen to him, so he stopped prophiesing. If i remember right.
So in verse 10.
It is jeremiah ,who is saying I repent for the evil i brought upon the people of Israel. I think some where back in Jeremiah, he cursed the people of Israel, and told them he would bring evil to them.
To teach them a lesson, for not believeing. Or listening ,to him. But don't get me wrong, God has showed ,he has compassion for man. But it takes a long time to recieve it.

God isn't sorry he created human beings. he's sorry they chosen to disobey because of the fact he's conscious what is going to take place to human beings from that ingredient on. In what experience can that is asserted that Jehovah “felt regrets” that he had made guy? right here the Hebrew be conscious translated “felt regrets” pertains to a transformation of physique of recommendations or objective. Jehovah is suited and as a result did not make a mistake in coming up guy. whether, he did have a transformation of psychological physique of recommendations as regards the depraved pre-Flood era. God became from the physique of recommendations of the author of human beings to that of a destroyer of them because of the fact of his displeasure with their wickedness. the certainty that he preserved some human beings exhibits that his regrets have been constrained to those that had grow to be depraved.—2 Peter 2:5, 9. (Exodus 33:a million) 33?And Jehovah mentioned extra to Moses: “flow, flow up from right here, you and the human beings whom you led up out of the land of Egypt, to the land approximately which I swore to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, asserting, ‘on your seed I shall supply it.’ the place does it say that Moses spoke to God head to head? (Jeremiah 17:4) 4?and you permit loose, even of your own accord, out of your hereditary possession that I had given you. I will additionally make you serve your enemies interior the land which you have not generic; for as a fireplace YOU human beings have been ignited in my anger. To time indefinite that is going to shop kindled.” (Psalm 30:5)  5?because of the fact being under his anger is for a 2nd, Being under his goodwill is for a life-time. interior the night weeping might soak up lodging, yet interior the morning there's a soft cry. 2 distinctive money owed. Jeremiah is speaking approximately people who worship different Gods and not in any respect repent. Psalms is speaking approximately people who make a mistake yet are repentent. i'm not likely to hardship with the the remainder of those on account which you're taking them out of context. of direction God perspectives obedient human beings in yet in any different case than gross sinners and that's what you're comparing. you're actually not comparing apples to apples.

God often let the people know He had accomplished His goal of getting their attention and bringing their eyes back to Him. If you read closely you'll see the really bad stuff only happened when they started doing horrible stuff to each other and worshiping gods that required abnormal sacrifices.
